The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion just got a fresh remaster, and it has a very hard difficulty setting that is the equivalent of fully moving the difficulty slider to the right in the original game. In this tier list, we will try to rank the different Daedric artifacts that you can get by completing certain quests in the game. Specifically, they will be ranked based on how useful they are going to be in the hardest difficulty level.
Oblivion Remastered – Deadric Artifacts Tier List Master Mode
There are several Daedric artifacts that you can find all around the game, and they each provide unique enchantments or abilities that can greatly benefit you. This is especially true if you are playing in the master difficulty mode of the remaster, where every small advantage is welcome.
In this tier list, which is purely subjective and based mainly on the general thoughts of the community when it comes to each item, will try to rank these artifacts based on their usefulness in this tough difficulty setting.
S Tier
Azura’s Star – This item is one of the most useful Daedric artifacts in the game, regardless of what difficulty setting you have chosen for yourself. It is basically a reusable soul gem of the highest tier, and while it does not work on humanoid souls, it is still insanely useful especially when you are struggling with grand soul gem upkeep.
Umbra – The Umbra is a powerful enchanted one-handed blade that has an innate ability to soul trap on hit. Combined with the Azura’s Star, you can just keep refilling your enchanted weapons with little effort. Also, since it is not leveled, you can try to get it early for a huge spike in your damage output.
Skeleton Key – While it does not necessarily help you in special ways when it comes to master difficulty, the skeleton key is an insanely good item as it negates the need to stock up on lockpicks. It may seem like a minor thing, but an item that completely outshines a whole skill (Security) is worth putting up here even though lockpicking is hilariously easy already.
Oghma Infinium – Despite how easier and less restrictive it is to level up in Oblivion Remastered, the Oghma Infinium is still extremely useful as it is essentially just a bunch of free attribute and skill points. It is useful for any build, so it is always worth looking into.
A Tier
Ring of Namira – It is an accessory that gives you reflect damage and spell. You can get it at a very low level, and it can be pretty good especially if you are playing a build that tanks a lot of damage. The effect is not that potent, which is why its usefulness depends on how willing you are to take damage in the first place.
Ring of Khajiiti – This ring gives you a decent fortifyspeed effect, as well as some free chameleon. Easily an S tier item with certain builds, but overall, it is not essential for most stuff. If you are a stealth user, then this item becomes essential as it can help you hit that 100% chameleon much easier.
Skull of Corruption – This can be particularly good in master difficulty because it can make a clone of your enemies. With how useful meat shields are in this difficulty setting, it is absolutely a good item as it can buy you a lot of time and prevent you from taking too much damage throughout a fight.
Sanguine Rose – Just like the previous entry, this adds another meat shield that can even deal decent to great damage depending on what type of minion it summons for you. It lets you spawn a random Daedra that lasts a decent chunk of time, and with some good RNG, you can win fights with little effort.
Saviour’s Hide – This item grants you a decent amount of resist magic, which can be particularly strong depending on your build. Its downside is that it is light armor, which might render you pretty fragile against physical threats. It has a pretty unique appearance too, if you ever find yourself caring about drip.
Spell Breaker – This is a heavy shield that has decent stats and a reflect spell effect. Just like the Ring of Namira, this can be particularly useful with tankier builds. It might be a bit of a niche pick as far as these artifacts go, but it is pretty strong in that niche.
Ebony Blade – It is a weapon that have the silence and absorb health enchantments. It has decent stats for the level you get it at, and the absorb health effect can be pretty useful if you find yourself taking a bit too much damage. You can even use it with a shield, as odd as that would look considering it is a katana.
Goldbrand – Just like the blade before it, this weapon is a pretty strong one hand blade. It has the fire damage enchantment, making it the perfect addition to your setup if you are using an elemental weakness build. It also just has solid damage numbers, so it is a nice weapon overall.
B Tier
Mace of Molag Bal – It is a serviceable blunt weapon that has absorb strength and magicka. It deals a decent amount of damage, but the usefulness of its enchantments is a bit too dependent on your build. With how far you need to progress in order to claim this weapon, it is entirely possible that you have already gotten better options by that point.
Mehrunes Razor – This weapon is a part of the base game now due to it including all of the DLCs. It is an okay dagger, though it is leveled and has to be claimed at a high level in order to maximize its effectiveness. It has the Daedric Banishing effect that can instantly kill enemies, but it is completely random and generally unreliable.
Wabbajack – This thing turns NPCs into a random creature, and while it does have the potential to be really good, it can also completely backfire on you if you are unlucky. It is not a bad item, and it can be quite amusing, but it is definitely not “great” because of the possibility of making an even larger threat.
Voldendrung – It has pretty weak damage for the type of weapon it is, but it shines because of its paralyze on hit effect. It can also drain a bit of health, but the paralysis is what keeps this from falling into an even lower rank.
C Tier
Masque of Clavicus Vile – This item is a completely useless one as far as armor goes, since it has a pitiful defense rating. On top of that, its only effect is fortify personality, which is hilariously bad considering how far into the game you need to be in order to get this. It also does not help you in combat, because it is not like you can negotiate with enemies.
And that concludes this tier list of Daedric artifacts that you can get and how useful they might be when playing in the “master” difficulty setting of this game.
