However, it’s not mandatory to pick it up during the quest. After all, it’s not required to unlock any door or anything like that in the quest. That also means you can miss it if you glossed over its location while doing the quest, which will prevent you from getting some loot elsewhere!
Fret not, though. In this guide, we’ll tell you where to find the Red Metal Key as well as where to use it.
Red Metal Key Location | Beneath the Crystal Rock Quest
You’ll be able to reach the location for the Red Metal Key late in the “Beneath the Crystal Rock” quest in Genshin Impact. It’ll be reachable once you get the “Follow the inscription back to the Lesser Shadow Pin” objective after you’ve already repaired the inscription. You should be in the pool of water shown in the image above.

At this point, the only way to continue the quest is to use the mark nearby to indwell a Koholasauri.
After you indwell it, approach the nearby Spiritway and ride it up to reach a staircase with a Precious Chest.
Don’t forget to open the chest, even if you don’t need it for the Red Metal Key!
That said, the Red Metal Key is simply on the ground at the top of the staircase. Investigate the golden glow near the top of the stairs to pick up the Red Metal Key! It should still be in this spot if you missed it while doing the “Beneath the Crystal Rock” quest, as well.
However, this key isn’t used as part of the quest itself, so let us also tell you where to use it.
Where to Use the Red Metal Key | Getting the Treasure
To use the Red Metal Key, travel to the Teleport Waypoint shown above. It’s in the Basin of Unnumbered Flames in Natlan, west of the Tequemecan Valley area.
Once you teleport, look for a gate by the cliff directly southwest of the Teleport Waypoint. Follow the arrow in the image above and you should notice the lantern in front of the gate.
When you finally reach the gate itself, look for a lever by the western wall in front of the gate. Use the Red Metal Key here to activate the lever and open the gate!
You can now enter the location revealed by the Red Metal Key in Genshin Impact. There are two Common Chests and one Precious Chest inside the small cave, so it’s definitely a good haul for simply picking up a key!
