You will need a variety of tools to gather the many resources available in Song of the Prairie. However, you start the game empty-handed!

So, how are you supposed to get farming like that?

In this short guide, we’ll go over how to get every tool in the game and how to upgrade them into stronger variants.

You can get most of your starter tools in the game by speaking with the various NPCs in the town.

After the introductory sequence of the game, you will be free to roam the town. As a newcomer, you should introduce yourself to the townsfolk!

Look at your map and look for white and gold tool icons. These mark short tasks that will ask you to meet some of the NPCs that inhabit this town.

All you have to do is walk up to the NPCs and speak with them. Once the dialogue is over, they will give you their respective starting tool and a small tutorial on how to use it.

For example, the axe-shaped icon leads you to the woodswoman Abby. Speak with her and get your first axe.

Repeat the process for the other NPCs and you will get all the tools in no time! However, these are just the basic starter tools. You can still make them better, though.

How to Upgrade Tools in Song of the Prairie

After you have your basic tools, introduce yourself to the Blacksmith in town. Give her materials and pay a Gold fee so she can craft improved versions of your weapons.

The first upgrades will require you to get a lot of Copper which is found by breaking down copper rocks.

Once you get enough money and materials, approach the Blacksmith and order the tool you want. She will get to work on it right away, but you will need to wait an in-game day to receive it by mail.

Don’t worry, as you can still use your basic tool in the meantime.

That’s all there is to it! We recommend upgrading your Hammer first, as it’s the tool you need to get ores like Copper and Iron.
