With the launch of the seventh season of Sea of Thieves, we are introduced to the new Captaincy with many new things that will change how you set sail in the game. Going on a voyage as a captain with your crew, customizing your ship, putting trinkets inside of your ship, and the new NPC Sovereigns.

This guide is your best bet if you’re curious to know what Sovereigns are and how to use them.

How to Use the Sovereigns in Sea of Thieves

Sovereigns are NPCs found on every outpost. They have a large tent on a dock, and deal exclusively with Captains and their crews. They specialize in trading; meaning, you can sell everything.

Conversely, Sovereigns will buy what you sell as if you’re selling goods to other companies, it so that you do not need to go to each company that needs the items.

How Sovereigns Work

Sovereigns will distribute the treasures you’re putting up for sale, making it as if you are the one delivering the treasure directly to the buyers. They accept treasures sold at the merchant alliance, skulls to the order of souls, captain’s chest to the gold hoarders.

The only difference is the trading commodities. Sometimes, when you sell trading commodities to the Sovereigns, they will not give you any bonus. Still, it is better to sell at the Sovereigns than by going to all the companies every time you unload your treasures.
