If you feel like the image in RuneScape: Dragonwilds doesn’t look as crisp as it should, you’ll want to disable its Blur, Fog, and Bloom effects.

Sadly, though, there’s no toggle for any of these effects in the settings. Instead, you’ll have to dig a bit into the game’s config files to essentially mod them out.

How to Disable Blur, Fog & Bloom Effects | Runescape: Dragonwilds

We’ll need to do a bit of file editing to disable the Blur, Fog, and Bloom effects in this game. To start, go to the following address on your PC:

  • %localappdata%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\Config\Windows

You can copy and paste it into either the Explorer address bar or the Search in the taskbar. Either way is fine!

This will take you to Runescape: Dragonwilds’ config files folder. In here, open the file named Engine.ini. Then, scroll down to the very bottom of the file and copy the following settings:

  • r.Upscale.Quality=0
  • r.Upscale.Softness=0
  • r.Tonemapper.Sharpen=0.5
  • r.TextureStreaming=0
  • r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0
  • r.BloomQuality=0
  • r.FilmGrain=0
  • r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0
  • r.DisableDistortion=1
  • r.Tonemapper.Quality=0
  • r.LensFlareQuality=0
  • r.Fog=0
  • r.VolumetricFog=0
  • r.MotionBlur=0
  • r.MotionBlurQuality=0
  • r.MotionBlur.Max=0
  • r.MotionBlurSeparable=0
  • r.MotionBlur.Amount=0

The end result should look just like the example shown above. This will disable anything that can make the image look blurry or hazy. It should also improve performance slightly, as it removes the costly Volumetric Fog effects!

When you’re done, save the Engine.ini file and then right click on it. Open its Properties.

As the finishing touch, make sure to tick the “Read Only” box on. This will prevent the game from removing the changes we’ve made here.

With all of that, you’re done! You can now just launch RuneScape: Dragonwilds again and enjoy the game without any of the Blur, Fog, and Bloom visual effects. The image above shows a comparison of what it looks like next to the default settings.

If you want to go back to the default, you can just tick off the Read Only property from the Engine.ini file and delete it. The game will reload the default settings on the next launch if you do that.
