One of the latest updates to RuneScape: Dragonwilds finally added the Fishing skill, which you can unlock by completing a fairly short quest.

Fishing, as you might imagine, allows you to capture fish. You can do so with either a net or a fishing rod, with each one having its own quirks and giving you different types of fish.

In this quick guide, I’ll tell you everything you need to do to start fishing!

Starting the Fishing Quest and Unlocking Fishing

The very first thing you need to do to start Fishing, is to use a Crafting Table to make a Net. I highly recommend the Coarse Net for starters, as it merely requires 2 Coarse Thread to make. However, any should work!

As soon as you craft any Net, you’ll receive the “Shrimp Catcher” quest. Just follow it to its spot on the map to meet up with the Wise Old Man, who will talk to you about Fishing.

For your next step in this quest, you just need to actually go Fishing. Any body of water will do for this, such as the lake and river west of where you meet the Wise Old Man.

Either way, look for a small rippling fishing spot once you get to a body of water. It should look like the one in the example above. These smaller spots are for Nets, while the larger spots are for Rods.

To fish, you just need to bring out your Net and interact with the small fishing spot. Your character will grab a random assortment of fish, depending on the spot! Though, you’ll mostly just get Raw Shrimp here.

Unlocking Fishing Rods

Once you’re fishing with your Net, you want to just keep going until you manage to reach Fishing Level 3.

At Fishing Level 3, you’ll unlock the ability to craft Fishing Rods and Baits at your Crafting Table and Smithing Anvil.

For the sake of the “Shrimp Catcher” quest, you’ll need to craft the Ash Rod. You can make it a the Crafting Table using 1 Ash Log and 1 Coarse Thread. Also make some Shrimp Bait using the Raw Shrimp you caught with your Net.

At this point, Fishing is fully unlocked for you! But, to finish the quest, go to a body of water again and equip both your Fishing Rod and Bait. This time, look for the bigger ripples in the water.

Stand some distance away from the ripple and cast your line (Left Click, RT, or R2 by default) into it. Wait to catch a fish, then steer it left and right to counter its movements. Reel it in by holding the same button as casting whenever the fishing bar is blue.

Manage to succeed at fishing here and you’ll most likely get either a Sardine or a Trout. Either way, you can return to the Wise Old Man to tell him how your fishing trip went and finish the quest.

So, there you have it! That’s all you need to do to unlock Fishing in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, including how to start and finish its related quest. From now on, you can fish freely!
