The recent Together update for No Rest for the Wicked has brought some drastic improvements to the game’s core systems and mechanics.
One such improvement is the Embers. In the update, a bunch of new Embers have been introduced, each with its own unique mechanic.
Without further ado, let’s look at how you can interact with the new Ember system.
How to Use and Farm Embers in No Rest for the Wicked

In the new update, several new Embers were introduced, which brought some changes to the way you alter your equipment.
Back then, there was only the Fallen Ember, which you can use to add, modify, or re-roll the enchantments of any given gear.
Now, you gain access to 6 new Embers. This adds an extra layer of complexity to how you modify your items. These new Embers are as follows:
- Corrupting Ember
- Void Ember
- Awakening Ember
- Essence Ember
- Radiant Ember
- Sublime Ember
If you have played Path of Exile, then you’ll find yourself at home with the new Embers in No Rest for the Wicked. They’re essentially similar to PoE’s currencies, which can alter a gear’s modifiers in various ways.
It’s also worth noting that Fallen Ember’s function now only lets it add new enchantments or modify existing ones. That said, let’s look at how each Ember functions.
Corrupting Ember
Corrupting Ember corrupts an item, increasing its rarity to Plagued while granting it various enchantments. This is similar to Path of Exile’s Alchemy Orb, which raises an item’s rarity from Normal to Rare.
However, this only works on Common rarity item and won’t work on any other rarity.
Also worth mentioning is that when a Common item gets converted to a Plagued item, it will always have a random downside in its enchantments.
Essence Ember
Then we have Essence Ember which absorbs an enchantment from one item and places it on another.
Use it on an item with the enchantment you want to absorb, then choose that enchantment afterward. You’ll then receive an item called Charged Essence Ember containing the enchantment absorbed earlier.
You then use the charged ember to apply that enchantment to a target item.
Take note, however, that absorbing an enchantment from an item destroys said item in the process.

Void Ember
Say, you have an item with modifiers you don’t like, or want to return a Plagued item to Common rarity. This is where the Void Ember enters the picture.
Essentially, the Void Ember removes all enchantments from an item and returns it to Common rarity. This is quite useful for Plagued items that have a bunch of undesirable enchantments.
Awakening Ember
Next up is Awakening Ember, which simply transforms a Common rarity item to Magical rarity, adding random enchantments in the process.
Radiant Ember
Radiant Ember is used to strengthen the effect of an enchantment on an item. When used on an item, you will be able to pick which enchantment you want to strengthen.
During this period, you’ll get to see the chances of that succeeding. You can also see what the potential value of the enchantment will be if it succeeds.
For example, you have an item with an enchantment that says “Ice damage increased by 9%”. If you use Radiant Ember on that enchantment, it will display “Ice damage increased by 10%” alongside the success rate right below it.
Sublime Ember
The last one is Sublime Ember, which you can use to amplify one of the effects of a fully enchanted item.
This is essentially endgame stuff which is pretty useful if you’re already at the point where you’re minmaxing your build.
It works pretty much the same as the Exaltation mechanic. I highly recommend saving it up for when you’ve already established your build in the late game.
Also worth mentioning is that you only have four uses of this Ember per item, and any item altered by Sublime Ember can no longer have its enchantments modified in any way.
How to Farm Embers

Now that we have an overview of the new Embers introduced in the update, let’s talk about how you can farm them.
The most straightforward method for farming them is to complete Bounties and Challenges from Captain Randolph in the Sacrament.
Rewards will vary depending on the mission, not to mention they get updated from time to time, so make sure to check often.
The next method is via fishing. Yes, you read that right – fishing. However, unlike Bounties and Challenges, it’s not a guaranteed drop. Still, it’s a solid strategy if you already completed your missions.
Doing chest runs is yet another method for farming Embers. While it’s not a reliable way to farm Embers, it’s still a good option if you’re out there exploring the world.

The last method is by clearing Pestilence.
Personally, this is the worst method as you’ll have to wait almost a full day to clear another Pestilence after completing one. You can choose to do it for the sake of getting other rewards, but it shouldn’t be at the top of your list when you’re after Embers.
And that covers how to use Embers and how you can farm them. If you have enough Embers lying in your inventory, maybe it’s time to give Bow builds a try.
