Back then, you had to find blueprints out in the world in No Rest for the Wicked in order to obtain certain items that you could craft later on.

However, this has changed since the introduction of the Together update. Now, instead of looking for blueprints, all you have to do is research a recipe via the Scribe Table to unlock it.

But of course, you need to find the table first. Here’s how you can find it.

During the early game, you can have access to a Scribe Table in Sacrament.

You’ll find it right next to NPC Danos who you can find in the plaza. Simply interact with the table to gain access to the various stuff that you can research.

That said, you’ll need Research Papers to research a recipe, with each recipe having its own number of Research Paper requirements. These papers can be obtained from the world by killing enemies, looting chests, etc.

You can also purchase them from the General Store vendor from time to time.

Later on, as you progress through the game, you’ll be able to buy your own Scribe Table, which you can place inside your house.

This way, you no longer have to go to Danos’s table just to research recipes.

Using the Table to Research Stuff

When you interact with the table, you’ll notice several item categories that contain recipes for various stuff such as weapons, armor, consumables, and tools.

However, for a recipe to appear, you need to find its corresponding item in the world at least once. This way, exploration still remains the core of researching and crafting stuff.

Still, you have the option to research a random recipe, but at a higher cost. I personally don’t recommend this early on unless you’re missing a key item.

As soon as you research a recipe, you can then craft it at the appropriate crafting station.

Since you only get a limited number of Research Papers, especially early on, it’s important to research stuff that you actually need.

Ideally, you want to focus on items that would improve your survivability and quality of life. Some examples include storage, basic weapons, and a bunch of essential tools.

Don’t spend your Research Papers to unlock furniture and cosmetics just yet. It’s also important to upgrade your crafting stations.

If you unlock an advanced recipe but it won’t show up on the crafting station, it simply means that that station needs to be upgraded first.

Once you’ve crafted stuff such as gear, the next thing you should do is enhance them using Embers. For that, you might want to check out our guide on how to use and farm Embers.
