This means you will need to find them again if you leave an area and come back.

The first cluster of Gray Crystals will appear as a tutorial during the first quest in the questline, titled “The Splendorous Sky That Day”.

You can’t progress until you break these crystals to clear a path, but a Khvarena is hiding nearby.

After the game tells you about Gray Crystals, look for a bunch of flimsy-looking rocks near the mine’s wall. There should be an arrow above them, highlighting the spot.

Hit them with a strong attack to break the rocks and reveal a helpful Khvarena! Just look at it and wait; it will fly over to the crystals and melt them to thank you for freeing it.

As a bonus, you will get the “Shining in the Mire” the first time you do this.
