In celebration of N7 Day, No Man’s Sky is getting a rerun of Expedition 2 Redux: Beachhead.
This Expedition acts as a crossover with the Mass Effect series, allowing you to claim some goodies that match the Normandy’s aesthetic! However, there’s a limited time window to do the Expedition…
In this guide, we’ll help you complete the Expedition as quickly and easily as possible.
Expedition 2 Redux: Beachhead Guide | No Man’s Sky
Starting Up

First things first, you have to keep in mind that this Expedition is only available for a limited time. It’s available from November 7th to November 18th, 2025.
To start it, you have two options. The first is to just start a new save in Expedition mode. The second is to visit the Space Anomaly on an existing save and start it from there.
Personally, we highly recommend using an existing save! It will allow you to carry over materials into the Expedition, which can speed up your progress through it. Here’s a quick list of things we recommend bringing, if possible:
- Amino Chamber x1
- Antimatter x1
- Faecium x25
- Fishing Rig
- Frigate Fuel (50 Tonnes) x3
- Ionized Cobalt x50
- Sodium x20
- Spicy Chum x30
- Warp Cells x3
Putting these items into the Space Anomaly’s terminal will allow you to recover them later in the Expedition. More specifically, they will be available at the Space Anomaly once it becomes available after the start of the Expedition.
If you don’t have enough of these items, or you’re starting a new save, you can also buy these resources. We’ll explain how to get them when they become necessary.
Aside from that, make sure to also keep track of your Milestones as you progress. Make sure to claim all of them, as they will unlock stuff required to progress further.
Also, don’t install Modules you don’t really need. You can sell them for more Nanites if you want, instead of installing them. This will speed up your progress.
With that out of the way, let’s get into the Expedition proper!
Repairing the Freighter

As soon as the Expedition starts, talk to the Commander inside the freighter. Transfer all of the resources in the freighter’s inventory to your starship inventory.

Once that’s done, you need to repair the freighter’s Atmospheric Control Unit. You have everything you need from the cargo you got already, thankfully! Just replace the Wiring Loom with a Repair Kit.
Doing this will complete the “All Hands on Deck” milestone. Claim it to get some more Repair Kits, then use them and some Chromatic Metal to repair the rest of the freighter’s systems.

When everything is fixed on the freighter, board your Starship and leave the freighter. You now need to fly around and shoot down a total of 50 asteroids to complete the “Stardust” milestone.
Exploring a Scorched and Sub-Zero Planet

Next up, you need to go to Kuru Tau. This is a Scorched Planet that’s on the same system you’re already on. You just need to fly to it and land on it to complete the “Away Team” milestone.

On this planet, you have to find and analyze 3 different creature species. Doing so will check off the “First Contact” milestone. Yet another one down!
While you’re at it, you should also make sure to analyze and discover plant species, too. You need to discover a total of 13 different species. You don’t need to get them all on a single planet, though!
Regardless, discovering 13 plant species completes the “The Engine of Life” milestone.
Also, while you’re still on Kuru Tau, open the Photo Mode interface. Take a picture of the planet’s surface, as you will need it for the “Grand Tour” milestone later on.

Once you’re done at Kuru Tau, travel to Relland Deran. This is a Sub-zero Planet on the same system as Kuru Tau. Take a photo of its surface for “Grand Tour.”
Nameless History

Next up, you want to select and track the “Nameless History” milestone from the Expedition menu.

Once you’re tracking that milestone, place a Signal Booster and use it to “Scan for Ruins.” You can place the Signal Booster anywhere you want, such as on the surface of Relland Deran if you’re still there.

Follow the directions given by the Signal Booster to find ruins with a floating structure. Interact with it and select “Seek knowledge of the past.” Doing so will complete the milestone and reward you with a Historical Document.
Digging Treasure and Moving Around

For your next milestone, select the “No Man’s Treasure” milestone and track it.

Since you’re tracking this milestone, you can do a Target Sweep (see the hotkey on the bottom right of the screen) to find buried items. Locate 3 of these items to complete the milestone.
By this point, you’ll likely have walked around a total of 2500 units. If so, you will have completed the “Pilgrim” milestone.
Similarly, it’s a good idea to get “The Aviator” out of the way now, too. For that, you just need to fly a total of 100,000 units on your Starship. You want to do it now, as it will reward you with 10 Navigation Data.
Space Station Stop

Next up, you want to land at any Space Station. You have a couple of things to do over there!

The first thing is to talk with at least 6 locals and request dialect help from them. Learn a total of 6 words to complete the “Linguaphile” milestone.

Then, talk to the local Cartographer and browse their wares. You want to buy 2 Emergency Cartographic Data and 3 Alien Cartographic Data.
After that, use the Trade Terminal to sell Nip-Nip Buds and the Historical Document you got from the ruins earlier. While you’re at it, purchase 40 units of Salt.
Distress Signals and Rendezvous

Now, you want to select and track the “Interstellar Rescue” milestone. While tracking it, use an Emergency Cartographic Data to reveal a distress signal. Follow it and help the pilot you meet to repair their starship and complete the milestone.

Similarly, select and track the “Fallen Giants” milestone. Use another Emergency Cartographic Data to reveal a distress signal leading to a freighter crash site. Interact with the crashed freighter’s terminal to complete the milestone.

Make sure to claim the milestone’s reward to get a Salvaged Hyperdrive Upgrade. Then return to your own freighter and install said Salvaged Hypedrive Upgrade into the freighter’s Supercharged Slot.

Then, track the “Rendezvous 1” milestone. Use the Freighter Warp Map in your freighter and follow it to the marked system. This will complete the “Engage Warp” milestone, make sure to claim it right away.

By this point in the Expedition, you can now summon the Space Anomaly again! If you used it to stash away loot at the start, do so and retrieve your loot. It will come in handy soon.

To finish up for now, go to any Space Station and talk with the Technology Merchant there. Sell all of the modules you’ve received until now to get at least 4500 Nanites and complete the “Quantum Foam” milestone.

Use the rewards from the “Quantum Foam” milestone to build a Fleet Command Room somewhere in your freighter.
Time to Go Shopping, Mining, and Crafting

Now, this section isn’t fully required. If you started the Expedition with all of the materials we listed at the start, you can skip to the next section. Otherwise, though, you’ll need to do some shopping!
Visit a Space Station and make sure to buy all of the following:
- From the Station’s Trade Terminal
- Di-Hydrogen Jellies x7
- Carbon Nanotubes x3
- Metal Plating x1
- Cobalt x100
- Ferrite Dust – Buy all that’s available.
- From Traders Visiting the Station
- Chromatic Metal – All that’s available.
- Phosphorous x25

Shopping isn’t the only thing you need to do, though! You’ll also need to visit any planet to farm the following:
- Condensed Carbon x25 – From Crystals.
- Sodium x20 – From Plants.
- Mordite x155 – From Creatures.
Then, you need to refine 75 Mordite into 25 Faecium. Also, get enough materials to get 3 Warp Cells and 3 Antimatter.
Still not done yet, it’s time for refining! You need the following:
- Refine 6 Di-Hydrogen Jellies into Di-Hydrogen.
- Refine Cobalt into 50 Ionised Cobalt.
- Refine Salt into 20 Chlorine.
Use all of this to craft 1 Amino Chamber, a Fishing Rig, and 30 pieces of Spicy Chum. Then return to your Fleet Command Room to learn the Frigate Fuel (50 Tonnes) recipe and craft 3 of them.
Phew, that was a lot, but you’re now on the same playing field as players who brought in all of these items via the Space Anomaly…
Getting Back on Track

Now that you have a massive hoard of materials, you should place a Storage Room inside your freighter. Doing so will check off the “Super Cargo” milestone.

Then, it’s time to do the “Called by the Stars” milestone. For this, you need to send your fleet on an Expedition a total of 3 times. You can do this by talking to the Navigator on your freighter.

Thankfully, there’s a bit of an exploit to this currently. You can actually send your fleet and instantly recall them by selecting End Expedition from the Fleet Command Room. Do this 3 times to complete the milestone in seconds! It saves a lot of time, as you don’t need to wait real time for the fleet’s expedition to complete.

With that out of the way, build an Orbital Exocraft Materialiser in your freighter. It will complete the “Drop Protocol” milestone and give you some key room blueprints.
Similarly, build a Scanner Room, a Double Cultivation Chamber, and a Teleport Chamber. This will complete the “Farseer”, “The Air We Breathe”, and “Across Infinity” milestones.

By this point, you want to resume tracking the “Rendezvous 1” milestone. Follow it to the marked planet and reach a portal, completing the milestone.
At this point, it’s a good idea to use the Signal Booster to locate nearby structures. Activate 5 Save Beacons at these structures to complete the “Signs to Nowhere” milestone, if you haven’t done it yet.
While you’re still on the planet for Rendezvous 1, you should also go fishing. Use Spicy Chum to catch 5 uncommon “ice” fish to complete the “Icy Veins” milestones.
Mind you, though, the fish you get are extremely random. It has to be ones specifically marked as originating from a Frozen Planet. Some players report better luck by fishing on other planets, even ones that aren’t frozen. Funny how that works, huh?
Time For a Lot More Rendezvous

Next up, you want to track the “Rendezvous 2” milestone. As before, you just need to follow it to warp to a different system. Then go to the planet marked in-game to reach a portal and complete it.

On the system that Rendezvous 2 takes you to, look for the Argi Prime Forsaken Planet. Land on it and take a photo of its surface to complete the “Grand Tour” milestone, at long last.
Once that’s done, you just need to complete “Rendezvous 3”, “Rendezvous 4,” and “Rendezvous 5.” They work the same as the previous ones, so you just need to track them and follow the in-game directions.
Nearing the End of the Expedition

Now, you have to track the “Historiography Lesson” milestone. Use 3 Alien Cartographic Data charts to reveal locations, then go to those locations.
When you reach them, interact with the alien remnants you find and select “Take Dosimeter reading for Nada” on all 3 sites. Doing so will complete the “Historiography Lesson” milestone.

Next up, return to the Space Anomaly and ask Specialist Polo for Black Hole coordinates. Use your freighter to warp to the coordinates you get and enter the Black Hole.
This will take you outside of the regular Expedition area, which allows you to warp with the freighter through systems. Warp to 8 different systems in total to complete the “Uncharted” milestone.
Myth Beacom and SSV Normandy SR1

Then, return to the Space Anomaly and talk to the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion. Purchase 1 Myth Beacon from them to complete the “Collective Consciousness” milestone.
Do note, though, this is a community milestone! If the Myth Beacon is not available for purchase, you’ll need to wait for more players to progress until it is unlocked.

When you do get the Myth Beacon, though, track the “Echo Through the Ages” milestone. Follow its marker to go to a system and planet with the Historiographical Echo Source icon.

You just need to follow the marker until you reach a specific structure, then use the Myth Beacon to complete the “Echo Through the Ages” milestone.

At this point, you should now see a marker pointing you to the SSV Normandy SR1. Go off planet and fly up to the ship to process its message and add it to your fleet. This will complete the “Historical Paragon” milestone.
Claiming Rewards

Now that you’re all done, you just need to claim your rewards. For that, you just need to go to the Expedition terminal at the Space Anomaly and choose to end the Expedition.
If you started on a pre-existing save, you can pick what to keep by moving it into the Cargo and Technology slots on the terminal. Anything you don’t keep will be sold for Units and Nanites, then transferred to your main save.
If you started with a new save, you’ll get to keep everything as is. Ending the Expedition will just convert your save to a regular save, essentially, keeping everything intact.

That aside, you can now talk to the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion. Select “Collect Expedition Rewards” to claim the rewards themselves and you’re all done!
That’s everything you need to know to complete Expedition 2 Redux: Beachhead in No Man’s Sky. We hope this helped you complete it quickly within the time limit.
