For quite a while, Madden has been using a points-based system to scout players. This basically requires you to spend your allocated points for a week in order to scout players. The problem with this system is that it became increasingly frustrating among players.

After all, they end up losing their scouting points every week, even if you did not use them.

Luckily, the introduction of the new scouting system in Madden 22 has made things a lot better. Obviously, that means you have to learn almost everything from scratch. Fortunately, the same system is present in Madden 23.

In this guide, we’re going to talk a look at how you can scout and draft in the game.

How to Scout and Draft in Madden NFL 23

Regardless if you’re a beginner or an experienced Madden player, there will be certain things you should keep in mind when scouting.

In your Career Settings option, you’ll have the option to change your scouting into either Auto or Manual. However, if you want to set up your own franchise, I highly recommend setting it to Manual. You can find this option in the Scout College Players part.

Unlike Madden 22, Madden 23 now features 260 scouts, 100 of which are free. Moreover, you can now scout multiple positions all at once in every stage. This is a huge update which is pretty beneficial for players who prefer to rebuild franchises.

Scouting Done Right

That said, if you want to really make full use of the new scouting system, then there are strategies you can use. Do take note, however, that they are time-consuming but are quite effective nonetheless.

First off, you want to check for prospects during Week 1. Ideally, you want to take a look at players who are listed as “Day 3” or even better. You want to check their Physicals tab under Ratings, as this will let you determine their overall rating.

They will fall within the range of “Great – Elite” or “Solid – Good”. However, the most important physical attribute will most likely depend on the player.

For example, if you want a solid QB, you want to look for one with good Throw Power. Or if you want an offensive lineman, you have to look for one with high Strength.

To make things easier, favorite each player who you notice has potentially Elite skill at his key attributes. This will be your main pool which you want to observe throughout the season.

The second important thing to consider is to check the new stories which you can find in the News tab of Franchise. These stories change on a weekly basis, and you want to look for any that’s draft-related, regardless if it’s bad or good news.

Any story about a specific player is a sign to start looking at his physical attributes. This is because there are some cases when a player falls due to these stories but actually possesses very good physical ratings.

Eventually, your scouts will be able to learn more about various players in the season. At this point, you want to be looking for any red flags as a means of weeding out players. Some of these red flags would be low Core Attributes such as poor stamina, tackling, etc.
