The first thing you’ll need to do when starting a new game in Core Keeper is crafting a torch using 1 wood piece. Quickly, you’ll learn to have a steady supply of torches at all times, but you might wonder if this is truly the only source of light you can use. Well, there is one other item you’ll be able to use early on in the game – a lantern.

The Lantern Recipe calls for 5 slime and 5 copper bars. Both of these are fairly easy to get in the early game – slime is dropped by most basic enemies, while copper bars can be easily made using a furnace.

Following the glint that some walls will make, you should be able to dig out some ore, with the copper one being fairly common. To turn copper ore into copper bars, you’ll need to craft a furnace at a crafting table.

To make a furnace, you’ll need 20 Dirt Wall and 10 wood. Once you’ll have it, place the copper ore inside it to smelt it into bars, giving you access to some more advanced tools, like the aforementioned lantern.
