There are tons of classes to choose from in Black Desert Online. In fact, as of 2026, the game has 31 playable classes, and each of them is unique in its own way.

As such, if you’re completely new to the game or just returning after years of not playing, deciding on a class to play can be rather hard. After all, the meta has changed a lot since then, thanks to balance patches, new major updates, and more.

To help you with that, I have come up with this list of the best classes to pick in Black Desert Online in 2026. However, to make things easier, we’ll only be focusing on the PvE aspect.

Let’s get started.

Best Classes to Pick for PvE in Black Desert Online

Before anything else, I just want to get one thing out of the way.

This is by no means a tier list. So, I won’t be ranking all 31 classes in the game based on how good/efficient they are in farming the current content of the game.

Instead, we’ll only talk about the best PvE classes, period. Since 31 classes are a lot to choose from, let’s just skip to which ones work best. Also, it’s worth noting that the best class is the one you enjoy playing.

Nonetheless, here are the best ones I’d recommend you pick:

Succession Witch

I’m not really a huge fan of the magic-based playstyle, but if we’re talking about the safest answer for the strongest PvE class in the game right now, the answer would be the Succession Witch.

There are a few good reasons for this.

For starters, she has massive AoE coverage which makes her perfect for dealing with multiple enemies at once. Awakening Sage might have better and more efficient clearing in certain endgame spots, but it’s not by a long shot.

Second, this class is fairly beginner-friendly compared to other classes. Of course, while its basic rotation remains easy, you’ll have to commit to higher APM (actions per minute) if you want to master the class.

Nonetheless, learning its basics is relatively easy, and it can perform extremely well even without sweaty gameplay.

Lastly, the Succession Witch has good self-sustain and survivability as she can clear packs absurdly fast. What’s dead can’t kill you after all.

Succession Ninja

Next would be the Succession Ninja. Think of this as the opposite of the Succession Witch.

Suffice it to say, this is NOT a beginner-friendly class at all. It requires very high APM, is very mechanically demanding, and has a very high ceiling out of all the classes in the game right now.

However, it’s also among the most rewarding once you manage to master it.

It offers incredible burst rotation damage, quick movement between enemy packs, and amazing scaling at higher AP and gear levels. In the hands of a skilled and experienced player, the Succession Ninja can produce an absurdly high amount of trash loot in most endgame zones.

But then again, this class has a very high skill ceiling. It demands quick inputs, efficient cooldown management, perfect rotations, and constant attention.

If you keep on this gameplay for too long, it will eventually lead to burnout – or possibly carpal tunnel issues.

But when it comes to PvE performance, there’s no doubt that it’s one of the strongest classes you can pick.

Awakening Sage

Despite going through multiple balance patches over the years, the Awakening Sage still remains a top contender due to his toolkit. He combines massive AoE damage, strong mobility, excellent burst windows, and highly effective clearing potential in dense endgame zones.

As mentioned earlier, the Awakening Sage can outperform the Succession Witch in AoE clearing on certain endgame spots.

In particular, he performs especially well in Dehkia spots and dense monster rotations where his ranged burst and mobility let him maintain uptime safely. The class also benefits heavily from recent PvE damage adjustments over the past year.

Moreover, the Awakening Sage has a variety of movement tools that allow him to reposition and dodge incoming damage without affecting his grinding efficiency.

It’s also one of the flashiest classes in the game, so if that’s your thing, this might as well be your best bet.

Unfortunately, the class suffers from being too squishy, especially if you make positioning mistakes.

Which PvE Class is Actually Considered the Best?

Personally, I’d say that depends on your playstyle and what you value most.

If your goal is maximum efficiency in the endgame, Succession Witch and Succession Ninja are probably the strongest overall choices right now.

Meanwhile, if you prefer a balanced mix of power, flashy visuals, and endgame capability, Awakening Sage is your best option.

One of the best things about Black Desert Online in 2026 is that class balance is healthier than it used to be. The difference between many classes is often smaller than players think, especially outside of perfectly optimized endgame scenarios.

So, as cliché as it may sound, the “best” PvE class is the one you genuinely enjoy grinding on for hundreds of hours.
