The Mantis is a pretty versatile tame. Not only is it a reliable resource gatherer with the right tools, but it can also be a reliable combat mount, perfect for roaming the lands of Fjordur.

The Mantis is far from being the best creature in ARK, let alone in Fjordur. However, it does offer some really good utility. For one, a Mantis can be a pretty reliable resource gatherer for resources like wood and stone by equipping either a pickaxe or hatchet on its hands.

Apart from that, a well-mutated Mantis can be a really good boss killer. The only problem is that it lacks survivability than other tames like Rexes and Therizinos. Still, a Mantis is a pretty good creature to tame, and if you’re looking to tame one in Fjordur, then this guide will help you.

Where to Find Mantis and How to Tame Them in ARK Fjordur

There are several locations Fjordur where you can find a lot of Mantises. However, as far as the easiest one goes, I would highly recommend the volcano biome which is on the southeastern part of the map. Specifically, you want to head over to coordinates 82.6, 79.3.

The reason why I recommend this area is because of the presence of Deathworm corpses which you need to harvest for some Deathworm horns. You will see a lot of them lying around in the area, so make sure to harvest them so they can respawn later.

Taming a Mantis

After getting enough Deathworm horns, the next thing you need to tame a Mantis is a trap. Annoyingly, the Mantis is a passive tame where you need to feed it Deathworm horns to progress the taming bar. Also, it is normally aggressive, so you’ll need to use a Bug Repellant in order to get close to it without triggering its aggro.

Do keep in mind that it will become aggressive if you get too close. Also, if it remains in that state for too long, its taming progress will start to decrease. To avoid this, you need to build a trap that is one foundation wide and two walls high with a doorframe at one of the bottom walls.

Don’t close the back side of the trap yet. Lure a Mantis inside of the trap then exit through the doorframe. With its aggro still on you, close the back side of the trap with two walls. From there, make sure to lose the aggro by going as far as possible.

Then, head back to the Mantis with the Bug Repellent applied. Make sure you’re on the backside. You will notice that the Mantis’s butt will glitch through the wall. At the same time, you’ll also get the prompt allowing you to feed it with the Deathworm horn. Just make sure to place the horn on the last slot of your hotbar.

Taming a Mantis can be quite long. This is because you will have to wait for a few minutes interval in order to feed it again. After a while, you should be able to finally tame one.
