The Andrewsarchus is a medium-sized creature that looks like a hybrid between a Ravager and a Hyaenodon with a little bit of the Daeodon mixed in. You can find it roaming around the plains of Fjordur foraging for some food.

Just like its similar-looking creatures, the Andrewsarchus is an aggressive carnivore, and if you find one coming at you, you might not be able to outrun it on foot. As a new creature that’s exclusive to Fjordur, it’s not surprising that players are excited to get their own Andrewsarchus.

If you are too, then this guide is for you.

How to Use the Andrewsarchus Guide in ARK Fjordur

Taming an Andrewsarchus is relatively easy compared to your standard knockout tame. Its taming process is similar to that of the Equus, except that it’s a bit more hands-on this time. To do this, you will need a Giant Bee Honey on your 0 slot. You should also equip a Ghillie armor set so you won’t be spotted while throwing the honey to the ground.

As soon as you find your target Andrewsarchus, throw the honey on your 0 slot into the ground then hide for cover. Once your target approaches and starts feeding on the honey, move close to it for the Ride prompt to appear. This will initiate a riding mini-game similar to the Equus.

The only difference is that you have to actively steer the Andrewsarchus based on the prompts. White arrows will appear directing you whether to turn left or right. This means that if a white arrow on the left appears, you have to press and hold down the button to turn left. As you continue holding the button, the arrow will then turn green.

If the arrow turns red, release the button. If you press the button for too long after turning red, a gauge on the bottom will fill up. Once full, it will cause the Andrewsarchus to dismount you which then leaves you open to attacks.

Using a Tamed Andrewsarchus

After successfully taming an Andrewsarchus, you can then use it for a variety of purposes. You can immediately mount one after taming, even without a saddle. However, if you want to make full use of your tame, then I highly recommend crafting its respective saddle.

The Andrewsarchus can swim underwater for a long time due to its high Oxygen stat. Apart from that, it can even walk on the seabed, albeit at a slower pace. It’s when you equip it with its saddle that things get more interesting.

Specifically, the Andrewsarchus’s saddle has a mini-tank where you can mount and man the gun. You can switch to turret mode by pressing Ctrl on your PC. Do take note that this will require the Advanced Rifle Bullet, and due to its fast fire rate, it can quickly deplete a stack of ammo.

Apart from that, the Andrewsarchus is quite mobile for its size. You can press C while sprinting, which gives it a short speed boost which you can do up to 3 times before the charges go on cooldown.
