Wizard101 allows you to pick a Magic School to focus on at the start of the game, and it can be hard to pick if you’re starting out in 2025!

All of the Magic Schools are meant to be equally viable. So, realistically, you can play any one you wish and do well! But are there any that are better, especially for a beginner?

Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to answer for you in this short article.

Which School You Should Pick in 2025 | Wizard101

Death School | Wizard101

If you’re simply wanting to go for what’s “optimal”, it’s generally agreed that Death is definitely one of the best Magic Schools you can pick in this game.

The main reason for this is that it’s quite versatile, thanks to its ability to Drain damage. That means, you don’t need to pick between healing or attacking! You can just attack and get some health back at the same time. This is particularly powerful if you’re playing solo, and it makes the game easier if you’re a beginner.

On top of survivability, Death actually has a pretty high damage output as well. The one downside to Death is that it doesn’t get good AoE options early, which can slow down your progress.

Fire Wizard | Wizard101

If Death doesn’t sound like your thing, we can also recommend the Fire school. It doesn’t have the insane self-sustain and survivability of Death, though.

What really makes Fire shine is that it’s one of the best schools for dealing high damage. It also gets Meteor Strike fairly early on, which is a low-cost (4 pips) AoE spell that can carry you through a lot of content on its own.

Fire’s main weaknesses are its reliance on damage over time and its low accuracy. Later in the game, its raw damage is also outpaced by Storm, although Storm is a much harder school to play if you’re a beginner.

School placement test | Wizard101

If neither of these schools sounds particularly fun, that’s alright! In that case, we simply recommend doing the in-game school sorting test. You get this automatically at the very start of the game.

By answering a series of simple questions, the game will suggest which school sounds best for you. It’s a nice way to pick one if you’re indecisive and you didn’t like our suggestions. Though remember, you can’t change your main school later.

So, there you have it! That’s our suggestions on which school you should pick if you’re starting Wizard101 in 2025. For more beginner-friendly help, check out our list on how difficult each World is!
