Wartales, a very promising open-world RPG, has finally been released out of Early Access.
It’s a very deep and complex game, so it’s no walk in the park at all. It’s a daunting game for new players, but you’ve come to the right place if you wish to get into this game.
In this guide, we’ll give you a variety of tips to make the game easier to dive into!
Choose the Right Exploration Mode for You

You have two choices for Exploration Modes when starting a game, each one providing a different challenge and experience.
Adaptive Exploration will make the game’s world level up with you and your party, essentially providing a dynamic level of challenge throughout the game. It should be a harder mode overall.
Meanwhile, Region-locked Exploration sets a specific level for each region of the game, which will make some regions easier than others.
You will be able to overlevel to overcome foes, making it easier overall. Pick whichever one fits you best, but we recommend Region-locked Exploration for new players.
Pick Traits Carefully

You can pick the traits for your characters when starting the game. You’re able to pick up to 2 positive traits, but this has a downside.
Picking two positive traits will force you to have to pick a negative trait as well. You have to carefully weigh whether this is worth it for you or not.
If you do end up picking two positive traits, consider maybe picking Glutton or Pickpocket as your negative trait.
These will make the character require more food or money to keep, but they have no permanent impact on stats. You should have enough food and money later to offset the added costs in the long run.
Understand Turn Order

This game has a unique turn order system. You can see the turn order at the bottom left of the screen during combat.
What makes it unique is that you can pick any of your characters during your turns, as long as they still have actions left.
On the other hand, your enemies don’t get to pick which character to use. You can see an icon of which enemy will move in the same turn order chain at the bottom of the screen.
Use this to your advantage by focusing on whichever enemies are closest to having a turn!
Do Your Quests

You should reach a town early on in your adventure. Head straight to the inn when you do!
The inn is your hub for information, bounties, and quests. You can find a board with a list of bounties, as well as an informant that will let you know about points of interest.
Make sure to start doing these bounties and quests as early as you can. They’re a good source of experience and gold.
Improve Your Mobility

You should come across stables as you explore the game’s world, and it’s always a good idea to check them out and get a horse if you don’t have one yet.
Having a horse will greatly speed up your traversal, letting you explore more in a shorter amount of time.
Spend Knowledge Points

Exploring and completing tasks will inevitably reward you with Knowledge Points. You can use these points in your compendium to learn recipes, skills, and more.
We recommend learning the “Run” ability as early as possible! It allows you to try to flee from encounters, which is extremely useful when things get hairy.
