With the release of Honkai: Star Rail, players are treated to a massive roster of characters to choose from. However, just like Genshin Impact and other similar games, some characters aren’t available for free.
This means that you’ll end up having to spend real-world money if you want to get your hands on some powerful characters.
That said, you can still dominate the game while being an F2P player. You just have to choose which units to level up and invest in them wisely.
In this guide, we’ll have a look at the best units that you want to focus on leveling up if you plan to play the game without spending a dime.
Best F2P Units to Level Up in Honkai: Star Rail
There are a total of 27 playable characters in Honkai: Star Rail. Just like Genshin Impact, the game uses a gacha system for pulling new characters that you can add to your party.
Of the roster of playable characters, only 8 of them are available for free. This means that you have to spend some money if you want to access the vast majority of other characters.
But as mentioned, you can choose to be a free-to-play player, and all you have to do is focus on the following units:
Trailblazer
The Trailblazer is the character you start with in the game, and surprisingly, it’s very well worth the investment if you’re planning to be an F2P player.
As of now, it comes in two versions: Physical and Fire version. The Fire version specializes in playing the tank role, allowing you to mitigate any damage you receive which is pretty useful late in the game.
Besides, with more elements getting introduced in the future, this could mean that you’d be able to unlock the full potential of the Trailblazer pretty soon.
March 7th
Another worthy investment as an F2P player is March 7th who is known for her ice element. Just like the fire version of Trailblazer, March 7th is also quite tanky.
Her abilities mainly revolve around dealing ice damage and creating ice shields capable of absorbing a ton of damage.
These are pretty useful for defense, and some of her attacks even have crowd-control capabilities.
Dan Heng
Next is Dan Heng, a character with the wind element who’s capable of dealing tons of damage with his attacks.
Not only that, but some of his skills are also capable of slowing down enemies which is pretty useful during fights.
He can even buff himself during fights to further increase the damage he deals.
Honorable Mentions
Aside from the three we mentioned, there are also some other F2P characters that are worth investing in as well. However, they’re not as powerful as the previous three but are still viable.
They’re as follows:
Asta – Asta is a fire-type character whose ultimate boosts the speed of her allies. In case you’re wondering, any speed-boosting effect in Honkai: Star Rail is quite powerful as it allows you to make more turns than your enemies.
Herta – Herta is also a good choice for a character, though her usefulness is limited to farming domains. Against harder dungeons and enemies, however, you’re better off using other characters as she’s pretty much useless.
Natasha – The only 4-star healer in the game, Natasha is quite a good choice for F2P players as her heals are quite useful during fights to sustain your team’s HP.
