There are only 3 main classes to play in Dragon Age: The Veilguard but it can be hard to decide which class is the best for you.

Each class offers a completely different playstyle, so every player will prefer one over the others. Figuring out what to expect from each one is the hard part, though, as the game only gives an extremely quick overview of each class.

So, to help you decide, we’ll give you a more in-depth rundown of what each class plays like! Read on and we’ll help you choose your best class.

Mage

Mages are more or less what you would expect for the token spellcaster class, though they have a surprising amount of versatility as well. They can use Staves for long-range spells and swap over to Orbs + Daggers for medium-range and melee combat. Staves and Orbs are fantastic for elemental damage, as they always come imbued with an element!

Staves’ projectiles are somewhat weak and don’t stagger foes, but hitting enemies with them builds up magical energy. You can then unleash this built-up energy with heavy attacks, strengthening them and giving them special effects. Alternatively, you can spend Mana to charge up energy instead of landing hits!

For the Orb and Dagger combo, you want to use the standard orb attacks from medium range. They send out projectiles that apply Arcane Marks on your enemies with each hit. Once they have 3 stacks, you can detonate them with a heavy Dagger attack for a burst of damage.

Their array of spells works particularly well at crowd control, making Mage ideal when dealing with large groups of foes. It’s not all just direct damage either, as they can apply a variety of status effects on foes to weaken them before going in for the kill.

For defense, Mages can teleport and dodge very quickly to get out of harm’s way or use their Mana to surround themselves with a bubble shield that blocks all damage. That said, they are quite squishy and have very low defenses innately.

The other downside to the Mage is that their Mana doesn’t recharge through attacks, unlike other classes. It only recharges passively over time, so you have to be careful not to overspend during encounters.

Overall, though, this is an extremely versatile class that excels at elemental damage!

Rogue

Rogue | Dragon Age: The Veilguard: Which Class Is Best For You?

The Rogue in Dragon Age: The Veilguard might be the most diverse class, so we can tell you that it might be the best for you if you simply prefer to have as many options as possible.

Not only do you get to dual-wield Swords, but they also have a Bow for ranged damage. You can switch between both weapons seamlessly unlike the other classes, and you also have a lot of traps at your disposal from your skills. Combine all of that with impressive agility and the Rogue has no trouble dominating the battlefield!

When it comes to defense, the Rogue has possibly the best dodges in the game. They cover a lot of distance and are fantastic for repositioning yourself! On top of that, you can parry attacks with the Dual Swords by blocking at the right time. You can then unleash a devastating counter-attack right after a successful parry, swinging the flow of battle back in your favor. That said, the Rogue’s defensive stats are pretty low, so you’ll need to master dodging and parrying to stay alive.

Being such an aggressive class, the Rogue relies on generating Momentum to use abilities. You gain Momentum by attacking foes and also by successfully dodging or parrying enemy attacks. You can then use this Momentum on various abilities such as raining arrows on foes or explosive throwing daggers.

What’s more, the majority of the Rogue’s abilities apply the Sundered status to enemies. This reduces their defenses, allowing for extra damage on any follow-up attacks. This works particularly well when dealing with single strong foes!

All in all, the Rogue has a lot of diversity in its kit. That makes it a perfect choice for anyone who’s indecisive about which class to play or someone who simply prefers having an answer for every possible situation.

Warrior

Warrior Gameplay | Dragon Age: The Veilguard: Which Class Is Best For You?

Do you love melee combat and tanking? We can already tell you that the Warrior might be the best class for you in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The Warrior can use a versatile Sword and Shield combination as well as a Two-Handed weapon for pure offense.

The Sword and Shield works somewhat like you would expect. You can use your Sword for quick slashing attacks and your Shield to block almost all incoming damage. That’s not all, however! You can also use your Shield to bash foes, which works particularly well against armored foes. You can even throw the Shield as a ranged option!

For better damage and crowd control, you can swap over to the Two-Handed weapon. It gives you access to wide-sweeping attacks that are fantastic for dealing with multiple foes at once. Plus, it also has high damage overhead attacks to cleave single targets. It’s a tad slower than your Sword and Shield and relies heavily on charging attacks, but the damage is second to none!

When it comes to abilities, the Warrior can learn skills primarily focused on bolstering their defense and crowd control capabilities. To use them, the Warrior will have to build up Rage by attacking foes in combat, similar to the Rogue’s Momentum. However, they also get access to a few no-cost skills which are great for giving you more options while you’re low on Rage.

Overall, the Warrior is fantastic if you like the tank playstyle or simply want to focus entirely on melee combat. It has the best defense of all classes while also dishing out incredible damage in close-quarters combat.
