The Steam hardware survey has finally revealed the dominance of the latest generation GPUs. The Nvidia RTX 40 series and AMD Radeon RX 7000 series have made their mark, with the RTX 4090 emerging as the best-selling next-gen GPU, garnering a surprising 0.23% share of the total users.
However, the picture is far from clear, as the latest release, the RTX 4070 Ti, has just made its debut with a 0.10% share. It’s likely that this number will change in the coming weeks.
The competition from AMD is heating up, with the Radeon RX 7900 series making its presence felt with a 0.07% share on Windows systems. However, it’s hard to determine which specific model, the RX 7900 XTX or the XT, is preferred by gamers, as the Steam survey doesn’t distinguish between the two.
While the RTX 4090 may be leading the pack among the next-gen GPUs, it still has a long way to go before it can challenge the reigning champions. The GTX 1650 currently holds the top spot with 6.04%, followed by the GTX 1060 with 5.10% and the RTX 3060 laptop with 4.30%. The RTX 4090’s impressive 0.24% share, despite being an expensive £2,000 GPU, still falls short in comparison.
