Fans of the highly acclaimed Metroidvania, Hollow Knight, are in for a treat as its highly anticipated sequel is set to release just a few hours from now. After six long years of being in development, Hollow Knight: Silksong finally lands a release date on September 4, 2025.
The studio behind the series announced that the game will release on PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PC.

What’s interesting is that when the release date for Silksong was finally announced, it caused at least 8 indie games to move their launch to a later date out of fear of being overshadowed when the game comes out.
Developer Ysbryd Games agrees with this sentiment.
“We have to remind ourselves that gaining visibility for Demonschool is our main goal. Thus, the Ysbryd team strongly believes we would not be doing our game any favors by wading into waters we can clearly see are blood red”, they posted.

It’s pretty understandable. After all, they’ll be going up against a behemoth, which is Silksong. And this can actually work to their benefit. Not only will they get overshadowed by Silksong’s release, but delaying their launch will also allow them to polish their games just a little bit more.
“I feel like a little krill trying not to get eaten by a blue whale”, said developer FrogTeam in a Bluesky post.
Despite Hollow Knight: Silksong being a highly anticipated sequel, what’s even more interesting is its price tag. Team Cherry revealed the game’s price tag, which is only a shocking $20, just $5 higher than its sequel! If you think about it, the first Hollow Knight game was released 8 years ago.
And with controversies in the gaming industry going around, increasing video game prices to absurd levels, Team Cherry and Silksong are aggressively going against the grain.
