You’d think Destiny 2’s new event is the game’s chance to appeal to its current community, but as it turns out, it ended up being a frustrating mess for the majority of the players instead.
The Call to Arms event, which launched recently, is supposed to be Bungie’s attempt at allowing players to power level quickly and earn rewards in the process.
Unfortunately, the majority of the players were frustrated at how the event actually works.
As a matter of fact, the way it’s implemented only made it possible for the hardcore players to obtain the rewards, all while leaving everyone else behind.
In summary, the event will have players compete for high scores by doing a bunch of Portal activities. Their aim will be to obtain the top to get rewarded at various tiers.

However, it seems that even the most dedicated Destiny 2 players who hit the hard cap of power level 550 find it ridiculously hard to hit the top 1%.
Moreover, it makes it literally impossible for players with a power level of 500 and below to obtain the rewards. Unsurprisingly, a lot of players weren’t happy with how things went.
Back then, you only needed to obtain enough score to get an A+ for the best gear. With the event, however, you’ll need to get the highest score to even get to the top 10-1%.
Destiny 2’s Call to Arms Event’s Rewards are Inaccessible for a Lot of Players
To understand why the new event has caused frustration to a lot of players, let’s first understand how Call to Arms works.
Basically, players will have to earn a place in different activities, namely Cutting Edge: Zone Control, Heliostat, Proving Grounds, and Salt Mines. They will then earn a score depending on how difficult an activity is, how well you or your team performed, and which modifiers were active.
Once you get a final score in a given activity, you will then be placed in a percentile of the overall Destiny 2 playerbase. You will then earn points with each percentile grouping, which you can then use to exchange for gear from Devrim Kay.

Moreover, your rewards once the event ends will be based on your total accumulated points.
Now here’s where the problem lies.
As mentioned, you need to get the highest score to get to the top 10-1%. To do that, you’ll have to do an activity on the highest difficulty, Ultimate, and add every negative modifier to said activity.
And if you’ve played Destiny 2 recently, you know how tough it can be. In fact, only those with a power level of above 500 can play on Ultimate difficulty.
What’s even worse is that your score is also tied to your power level.
This essentially gatekeeps players with a power level of below 500, and they have literally no chance of even getting a placement in the highest percentile.

For players who are aiming to reach the top 1%, they’ll have to be at the max power level of 550. Those with a power level between 501 and 549 might even find it extremely difficult.
This simply means that the Call to Arms event is one that’s intended mainly for maxed-out players, though there seems to be no indication of it at all. It’s even weirder that Bungie set it up as a “catch up event” when the majority of the players are left behind in the dust.
Bungie’s Response to the Feedback
With all the complaints over on social media, Bungie finally decided to respond to the complaints. In X (formerly Twitter), Destiny 2 Team stated:
“We’ve been watching the conversation and feedback around rewards, activities, and modifiers for the event. Expect details on some changes based on your feedback in the coming days.”
While it’s good news that Bungie didn’t take long to respond, there were still concerns about the new event being somewhat pay-to-win. After all, some of the paid rewards pass provide players with a 15% bonus to their scores.
That might not sound like a lot for players with a low power level, but for those who already hit the cap, they’d easily dominate the top during the event.

The event was supposed to convince Destiny 2 players to return to the game before the Renegades DLC releases, but it’s somehow having the opposite effect.
As of now, there’s no info regarding what Bungie will fix. Some pleaded for the removal of the power level’s influence on scoring. Others wished the penalty for not being at 550 to be removed.
Hopefully, whatever changes they’re going to make will be for the benefit of all Destiny 2 players, not just the ones who are maxed out.
