Trackmania is a fun arcade racer that lets you play on various race tracks. Despite being out for almost two decades already, the game still holds its own. In fact, it has even been updated to this day. As fun as the game sounds, it’s actually almost impossible to master. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t improve your skills in playing the game.

In this guide, I’ll show you some tips that will help improve your driving on all surfaces.

How to Improve at ALL Surfaces Guide in Trackmania

There are numerous skills you need to learn if you want to be good at the game. However, I found that these tips are the most significant when it comes to improving your skills. Let’s get started.

Drifting

Drifting lets you maintain your momentum during curves and sharp turns. However, it won’t apply to dirt, ice, or grass. To perform a drift, you need to reach at least 180 speed first, then steer to the corner you’re planning to drift in. At the same time, make sure you’re holding your brake for at least half a second or so.

As soon as you are able to initiate the drift, you then have to hold it as you go through the corner. It’s an easy-to-learn skill but one that is quite hard to master.

Airbrake

The first skill you should learn and aim to master is the airbrake. With this skill, you can shift your car’s position whilst in the air. This allows you to cushion your landing and even maintain your speed shortly after.

To perform an airbrake, you have to brake while in mid-air. This will allow your car to level out, then as it happens, aim to land on all four wheels at the same time.

Not Steering When Changing Gear

This is a skill you want to master when driving on either dirt, grass, or ice. If you haven’t noticed yet, you can lose your momentum when shifting up. This is because of the time that is spent during the process. To counteract this, instead of steering just before you shift up, always make sure to move forward.

This will apply to all 5 gears, so do your best to maintain a straight line whenever you reach speeds that require shifting up.

Bugslide

Similar to drifting, bugslide is also easy to learn but quite hard to master. Therefore, if you want to master this skill, be ready to spend hours on it. To perform the bugslide, you have to drift into the corner at a 90-degree angle. Your aim is to slide through the corner with as very little momentum loss as possible.

Mastering this skill will help you save precious time on the tracks if done properly.
