Brighter Shores might have a simple combat system right now, but trying to fight higher level monsters is still a daunting challenge.

Higher level enemies are definitely worth taking down, though. They reward you with more EXP for your combat Professions, and they also have higher chances to drop rarer equipment. You just have to tread carefully, as they can put you down quite quickly!

In this guide, we’ll give you a few tips to help swing battles against higher level foes in your favor.

How to Fight Higher Level Monsters

Use the Environment to Your Advantage

An easy way to get the upper hand on higher level monsters is to use every part of the environment to your advantage. Use stairs to rain ranged attacks on melee-only enemies safely, for example. Conveniently, stairs are also great because you can quickly disengage combat by just running upstairs and away from enemies. Always a nice option to have in case the battle doesn’t go your way!

You can also use L-shaped sections of the environment to kite enemies with ranged attacks. These L-shaped sections are particularly useful due to the fact that you get to land more ranged attacks than you would otherwise. Enemies take longer to reach you than they would normally.

If neither of these is an option, you can just kite enemies with ranged attacks while walking backward. It’s not as safe as staying on stairs and you don’t get as many hits in before enemies reach you as L-shaped walls, but it’s better than nothing!

Strength Potions are a Gamechanger

If you really want to fight higher level monsters in Brighter Shores, you’d best prepare before the fight even begins. As such, it’s ideal to level up the Alchemist Profession until you’re at least at Level 10. This will unlock the +40 Strength Potions for the 3 main elements: Arborae, Cryonae, and Tempestae.

You unlock even stronger Potions later on as you keep leveling up as an Alchemist, but they are reserved for Levels 56 and higher. So, the first tier of Potions is good enough for a long while!

Chugging one of these Potions during a battle will drastically increase your damage output with the respective element. Pay attention to the elements your foes are weak to and drink the right Potion. Pair it with a weapon that has the same element and you’ll be shredding foes with ease!

As a bonus point, we also recommend using fast-hitting weapons like the Hammerfist. Despite their lower damage per hit, they have much higher DPS output than slower weapons.

Be Lucky!

When it comes down to it, Brighter Shores combat is currently heavily reliant on RNG. There’s a wide range of randomness when the game decides how much damage you deal and take. Sometimes you’ll just be unlucky and will dish out low damage while taking big hits from foes. Not much you can really do about that, sadly!

Well, sure, you can equip better leveled gear to balance things a bit more in your favor. Having Rare or Epic equipment that’s your same level definitely helps. However, it doesn’t get rid of randomness entirely, so sometimes you’ll still just end up with bad rolls making a fight unwinnable. This will hopefully change later on in the game’s life, such as when proper skills and special attacks are implemented, but it is what it is for now. You just have to hope you get lucky…
