The Dragonflight expansion added a new way to fish in World of Warcraft known as “Ice Fishing”.
With this method, you can break away the ice in certain spots to open them up for fishing. As such, you can catch some unique fish that can’t be found anywhere else.
If you’re ready to start ice fishing, this guide will teach you how to do so!
How to Do Ice Fishing in WoW
To start Ice Fishing, you will need to get an Iskaaran Ice Axe which you can get by completing the “Ice Fishing” quest from Tavio.
For that, you need to get your renown with the Iskaara Tuskarr to Level 10. You can increase your renown using any of these methods:
Doing quests connected to the Iskaara Tuskarr faction.
Finding “Sacred Tuskarr Totems” and turning them in.
Partaking in weekly Community Feasts in Iskaara which you can unlock at Level 3 Renown.
Joining fishing crews at Fishing Holes. Also, turning fish into Fishing Holes daily.
Once you get to Level 10 Renown, go meet with Tavio in the southwestern part of the Azure Span.
Speak with him and he will tell you to get a Pickaxe Blade for him. With it, he will be able to craft an Iskaaran Ice Axe for you.
The blade is at the Three-Falls Lookout on the northwestern part of the Azure Span. It’s close to the Brackenhide Hollow dungeon at coordinates 18.88, 24.26.
Once you’ve picked it up, travel back to Tavio and turn it in. You will then get the Iskaraan Ice Axe which will allow you to start ice fishing!
After that, simply explore the frozen lakes in the Dragon Isles. Look for cracked spots on the ice and use your Iskaaran Ice Axe on them to open a new fishing spot.
