Creatures of the Deep is a very charming and relaxing fishing game. It has a laidback atmosphere that can really capture the calmness of a nice fishing trip.
However, that doesn’t mean it’s all easy. There are some things you need to keep good track of if you wish to have a successful fishing trip!
In this guide, we’ll give you various tips and tricks to help you get started. Let’s get fishing!
Beginner’s Guide to Creatures of the Deep
Before we dive into our tips and tricks, we want to give you a simple tip that should help you anytime: pay attention to Coco, the in-game helper.
Coco doesn’t just give you the tutorial and random tidbits about fish, but he can also give you important situational information. For example, he will notify you when you’re fishing at a bad spot.
Now, without further ado, let’s dive into our various tips!
Get Proper Equipment
At the start of the game, you will have very basic equipment. This includes your unreliable wooden rod which will break rather frequently. On top of that, it can’t catch rare fish.
As such, you want to spend your Gold on one of the better rods as soon as you can. They will unlock as you level up.
You also want to consider getting bait later in the game. Special Bait is particularly good, as it can help you attract rare fish and only costs 2 gems.
Also, consider upgrading your storage. This will let you carry more each trip, meaning you will waste less gold coming and going from fishing spots.
Don’t Ignore Floating Debris
You might randomly notice floating pieces of debris during your fishing trips. This can also include crates and chests.
Pick these up by touching them with your boat or fishing them with your rod. They are a good source of gold. Chests, for example, can give you up to 500 gold.
Sometimes, you will get trash, but it can also be sold to the store for gold.
Keep Track of Your Karma
Karma is a small but useful mechanic in this game. Every time you collect and sell trash, you will gain karma. Conversely, throwing trash back into the sea will deduct karma.
You want to keep your karma high as it increases your odds of catching fish! Don’t throw trash back into the sea. Instead, collect and sell it.
Look for Landmarks
You can find many landmarks and objects in the sea. These usually mark a good fishing spot, so fishing near them can be beneficial!
You might also see other boats like yours at these spots. These are other players. A large group of players might mean that the fishing spot is worth checking out, so keep that in mind.
Complete Tasks, Quests, and Achievements
You can find tons of activities to do and complete in-game. These include daily tasks, NPC quests, and achievements.
Daily tasks rotate every day, as their name implies. They are fairly basic, such as requiring you to catch 9 fish during the day, etc. When completed, they will give you rewards such as Gems.
There are also quests that certain NPCs will give you. They are given out from boats that have a text box with three dots coming out of them. They’re a good source of Gold and Gems.
On the note of quests, don’t sell Wilson! This volleyball has a face drawn on it which you’ll need for one of the quests.
In fact, this applies to most strange-looking junk you get: if it looks unique, it’s probably related to a quest. Don’t sell it off.
Lastly, there are the achievements which are a variety of basic tasks that you should complete by playing the game normally.
These usually require you to do a certain activity several times. Catch 10 fish total, for example, or sell 50 pieces of junk. Completing them will let you redeem Gems.
Don’t Waste Your Gems
Gems are a rarer currency than gold coins, so you should be mindful of how you spend them. We recommend saving them for storage upgrades.
You can also buy temporary boons like the Temporary Luck and Fishing Net accessories, but they’re not really that good overall.
On that note, avoid getting the Boat Radio. This piece of equipment only has one function: it lets you use emotes, so it’s only good for communicating with other players.
Despite its basic function, the radio still costs a whooping 1000 gold! If you are only interested in useful upgrades, you might want to ignore it.
