Just like the Townies, animals have hearts that showcase their level of happiness – you can increase the hearts by petting and interacting positively with each animal.

Aside from keeping their happiness up, you should also give them better food. To do this you will need to upgrade your seeds and plants, something you do in the Laboratory at the Community Center, the place where Ling works.

By upgrading your hay to silver you get an increased chance to produce higher quality animal products, as long as you are feeding them with the hay that was upgraded, of course. The higher quality products can be sold for more than the normal tiered ones so upgrade your hay; the pay is worth it.
