The Xbox Game Pass is a must-buy for Xbox and PC gamers. It features a massive library of games, with some amazing triple-A games also on there. Like other digital libraries, the Xbox game pass requires players to have an internet connection to view and download the games from there.

So, do you also need the internet to play games downloaded from the game pass?

Can You Play Game Pass Games Without Internet?

Fortunately, you do not need an active internet connection to play game pass games. That being said, there are some requirements to keep in mind if you want to play your games offline.

For Xbox, you can play games offline by making your Xbox the home console for your account. If you are using the game pass on PC, you will need to enable offline mode to play games offline.

Microsoft showcased a ton of exciting games in the 2024 Xbox showcase. With so many new games coming to the game pass, quite a few of these were showcased with the phrase “Play Day One”. Check out our article on what does “play it Day One” mean with game pass for more info on that.

Home Console – Xbox

To make your Xbox the home console for your account, you will need to:

  1. Go on your console and open up Settings
  2. From there, select System.
  3. Select Console Info, and in there, you will find Home Xbox.
  4. All you need to do here is select the “Make this my home Xbox” option.

Once you do that, all of your game pass games can be played even when you’re offline. That said, you will need to connect to the internet once within a month to restore licenses. Licenses for your games will expire in 30 days when playing offline.

Offline Mode – PC

On PC, you will need to:

  1. Open up the application for Microsoft Store on your device
  2. Once that is open, click on your profile icon. You can find the icon at the top right corner of your screen
  3. Select App Settings here and in that you will find the option Offline Permissions. If it is off, turn it on and if it is already on, just leave it as it is.

Doing this will let you play the games offline. Like the Xbox, you can only play game pass games offline on one device. So alongside enabling offline mode, you will also need to make your PC the designated device. To do this all you have to do is open up a game pass game on your PC and sign in using your account. Once that is done, you can quit the game and the PC will now be your designated PC.
