Early in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you’ll run into an optional objective during the “Easy Riders” quest. Here, Henry will have to look for food for Mutt.

However, you’re still stuck at camp with limited supplies. And to make matters worse, the game won’t make the solution immediately obvious. Thankfully, getting food for Mutt is really simple once you know how to talk to.

This guide will help you out.

After you set up your camp near Trosky, Mutt the dog will start barking loudly near the campfire. Henry will realize that the dog is hungry, at which point the optional objective of looking for food for him to eat pops up.

Look for Oats nearby who will then tell you that he has a sausage that he refuses to give away.

You could convince him to give you the sausage for free if you pass a dialogue check. If you manage to get it that way, then you can just hand the smoked sausage to Mutt and proceed with the rest of the game.

However, if you fail the speech check, he will instead tell you that Tankard has his ring, and he will offer you the sausage if you can get it back for him. To do this, you will need to beat Tankard at dice.

There is a comprehensive tutorial on how to play dice in the game, which should pop up if you challenge Tankard to a game. From this point on, you just have to beat him to get the ring, which you can then exchange for the sausage.

If you don’t know how to play dice, just focus on securing points consistently instead of risking large combos too often. Reach the target score before Tankard wins, and you’ll earn the ring. Once you have it, return to Oats and hand it over.

He will then reward you with a Venison Sausage, which you can then feed to Mutt.

How to Feed Mutt

So, how exactly do you feed Mutt?

Well, simply open your interaction menu with Mutt and select the Feed option. Choose the sausage from your inventory to complete the objective.

After this point in the game, Mutt can continue eating various meat-based foods you find throughout your journey. You can give him fresh meat, sausages, bacon, and hunted game.

While this objective is technically optional, keeping Mutt around is extremely useful throughout the game.

In case you’re wondering, Mutt can help track enemies, assist during combat, hunt wildlife, and even improve your Houndmaster-related progression.

Due to this, it is worth taking the extra minute to complete the task early on. It won’t take long anyway.

And that is all you need to know in order to get food to feed your dog. Just know that it has to be the smoked sausage for the first time. If you give him any of the other food items around the camp, such as bread or fruit, he will reject them instead.
