Oblivion Remastered – How to Get a Full Daedric Armor Set Early

Get yourself some of the best armor in the game as early as you possibly can with this trick!

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion just got a new remastered version, and it includes all of the features from the original game, including most of the exploits that have existed for the past two decades now. In this guide, we will show you how to essentially cheese the game’s mechanics in order to get a set of Daedric armor early in the game way before you are supposed to even see them in the world.

Oblivion Remastered – How to Get a Full Daedric Armor Set Early

Before we get started, do take note that we will be doing an old exploit that was never fixed in the remaster. There is no legitimate way to acquire actual Daedric armor “early”, unless your definition of “early” is reaching level 20.

This method can be done as early as you can, and the only grind you will need to do is for one skill due to some pieces of the set requiring it. Let us get to the specifics, starting with the preparation needed.

Preparing For the Exploit

First, before you can do this exploit, you will need a lot of repair hammers in preparation. Get a large stock of the stuff just in case you mess up. Besides, you are going to need a ton of these throughout your playthrough anyway.

A fast way to do this is to just buy them at the Imperial City Market District from the various weapon and armor merchants there. You can also check the crates and barrels all around this area, as some of them will contain hammers too.

Having a relatively high conjuration level will also help, and if it is one of your major skills, then you will be all set for the most part. While you are in the market district, pick up some summon spells so that you can grind it up to around level 50.

If you need some more help in that regard, check out our guide on how to level up conjuration (summoning) fast in Oblivion Remastered. You will need this for the full set of armor, so you may as well level it up now.

Exploiting Game Mechanics – “Repairing” Conjured Gear

The way this exploit works is that we are going to be conjuring gear and then “repairing” them with our hammers after using them for a brief moment. Bound gear, which is what you get via conjuration, are actually pieces of Daedric equipment in almost all aspects but name.

Now, there are several rune stones all around the map that you can activate in order to temporarily gain bound equipment. This means that you can wear pieces of “Daedric” gear for free right from the start.

For this method, you will need to find one of the following:

  • Hestra Rune Stone – This will give you Bound Gauntlets and either a dagger or mace for several minutes.
  • Reman Rune Stone – This will give you a Bound Cuirass as well as a sword or axe for several minutes.
  • SidriAshak Rune Stone – This gives you a Bound Helmet and a bow for just a couple of minutes (significantly shorter than the other two).

There are multiple of these around the map, and the method works for the weapons as well, but let us just focus on the armor for this one. Refer to the map image below for three locations you can check. The marked locations all represent different stones, so visit all of them!

One of each can be found close to the Imperial City, so you should have no trouble looking for them at all even at the start of the game. Attached in the map image is a picture of what a rune stone looks like as well.

How the Exploit Works

Now that you have all of the repair hammers needed and have the rune stone locations noted down, all that is left to do is go to each of them and activating their bound gear one at a time.

Upon activating a rune stone and receiving the bound items, which will be automatically equipped, you are going to be on a timer. Within the duration of these gear pieces, you will want to find a nearby enemy and then engage in combat.

Let them hit you a couple of times before you kill them so that the armor you conjured for free will be damaged. After killing the enemy, open your inventory and use a repair hammer. Here, you will see that you actually have the option of repairing your bound items. See where this is going yet?

Repair the bound items you want to keep and then go back to your inventory. There, you will now be able to drop the bound gear, which you normally should not be able to do. This is because the game now thinks that they are actual items.

Now that they are on the ground, you need to use the wait mechanic and skip ahead a couple of hours so that the actual “bound spell” expires. What normally happens is that the gear associated with the spell fades away once it expires.

However, since we “repaired” them and dropped them on the ground, they are no longer tied to our character. Therefore, the bound items stay in the game and can be picked back up. Now you have a bunch of “fake” Daedric gear for free!

You just do this with every gear piece associated with the rune stones and you will now have almost an entire set and arsenal of Daedric armor and weapons. However, you probably noticed that you are missing pieces for your legs and boots.

This is where the level 50 conjuration skill comes in handy. Go to the Mages Guild in Chorrol so that you can purchase the required spells from the NPCs there. One of the members here sells the Bound Greaves and Bound Boots spells, as well as others.

Purchase these spells and then do the exact same method you did to keep the other gear pieces from earlier. The only thing to take note here is that these spells only last for a short period of time, so pick a very weak enemy to “damage” them so that the process goes by quickly.

You should be able to get this done in no time at all, and you can even get a shield this way too! Once you have the full set, congratulations, you now have functional but technically “fake” Daedric gear that have zero weight.

Before you go, take note that these items scale differently from the actual Daedric gear. You see, Daedric armor is supposed to fall under the Heavy Armor category, which means that they are supposed to scale with that skill.

However, certain pieces of “Bound” gear are considered to be Light Armor. If you check the individual item details, you will notice that they are a bit of a mixed bag. Here is what each piece scales from:

  • Bound Helmet – Light Armor
  • Bound Cuirass – Heavy Armor
  • Bound Gauntlets – Light Armor
  • Bound Shield – Light Armor
  • Bound Greaves – Heavy Armor
  • Bound Boots – Light Armor

Because of this, they will not be as effective as “real” Daedric armor unless you level up both light and heavy armor equally. This is still an exceptionally strong option early on because you are not supposed to have this tier of armor until much later in the game anyway.

Just a warning, though, that there might be rare cases where the game crashes or does weird things while you are using armor acquired this way. Make sure to save often to avoid any potential problems!

That is everything you need to know in order to get “Daedric” armor very early in the game, which can be extremely useful if you are playing on the highest difficulty setting. While you are here, check out our guide on where to find all summoning spells in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Since you need to level up conjuration for this anyway, you may as well lean into the summoner bit even more.
