BlackGatomon is one of the most popular Digimon in Digimon Story Time Stranger. Its dark feline design makes it stand out, and many players want it on their team as soon as possible. Unlike some Digimon that you can collect right away, BlackGatomon requires a specific process: you must first recruit Gazimon and then digivolve it.
In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about how to get BlackGatomon, from finding Gazimon to unlocking the digivolution requirements.
How to Get Gazimon
The first step to obtaining BlackGatomon is recruiting Gazimon, since it is the base Digimon that evolves into BlackGatomon.
You can encounter Gazimon right after defeating MetalGreymon (Virus). Once you finish the fight, head to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building Entrance, where Gazimon spawns.

Instead of catching Digimon directly, Digimon Story Time Stranger uses a data collection system. Each time you defeat a Digimon in battle, a portion of its data is stored in your Digivice. When you reach 100% data, you can convert it into a usable Digimon.
Keep battling Gazimon until its data reaches 100%, then convert it through your Digivice menu. At this point, Gazimon will officially join your team.
How to Digivolve Gazimon Into BlackGatomon
Once Gazimon is on your team, it’s time to unlock its digivolution path into BlackGatomon.
1 – Open the Digimon menu:

2 – Select the Digivolution menu:

3 – Choose Gazimon and review its available evolutions.

BlackGatomon will appear as one of the options, but to unlock it you need to meet two requirements:
- Agent Rank 3 or higher
- SPI (Spirit) stat of at least 530
If your Gazimon hasn’t met these requirements, focus on training and leveling it up. You can raise SPI by fighting battles, using stat-boosting items, or through natural growth as you progress.
Once you’ve met both conditions, confirm the digivolution and your Gazimon will transform into BlackGatomon.

Why You Should Get BlackGatomon
BlackGatomon is more than just a stylish addition to your roster. It has great speed, solid attack potential, and fits well into many team compositions. Its moveset makes it especially good for quick strikes, and its evolutions down the line unlock even stronger forms that you’ll want later in the game.
If you’re looking to build a balanced team with a mix of power and agility, BlackGatomon is a strong choice.
