There are two big systems that rule over progression in Everspace 2.

First are your character’s Perks which you gain as you level up. These are independent of your equipment. Then there are Ship Attributes that are specific to your ships. These are found in the modules you equip into your ship.

In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about these systems! Let’s dive into it.

How Perks Work in Everspace 2

Perks are a series of passive buffs that the protagonist, Adam, can learn alongside his companions.

Adam’s perks are unlocked by gaining experience and leveling up. A new set of three perks is unlocked every 5 levels. Typically, you earn experience by taking out enemies and completing quests.

You can only choose one perk from each set, but you can change them freely any time. Make good use of that freedom and experiment with different perk combinations!

Meanwhile, Companion Perks are a bit different as they require you to invest in materials and complete specific activities.

You can also upgrade them by investing further in them. Unlike Adam’s perks, they are always active and you don’t need to pick and choose. Just choose which ones to invest in first!

We highly recommend investing in your companions’ perks frequently, as they provide a lot of helpful permanent upgrades.

How Ship Attributes Work in Everspace 2

Attributes are a series of stats that affect ships and the equipment they use. They are divided into Primary and Secondary attributes, each governing different stats.

These attributes are mostly found in modules that are of Uncommon and higher rarities. Modules are the different pieces of equipment you put into your ships.

You can always find Primary attributes in Uncommon or better gear. They are as follows:

  • Firepower: Governs the power of the ship, affecting the damage it deals. It affects Kinetic and Energy damages equally.
  • Precision: Governs Critical Hits and improves the chance of landing critical hits and the damage they deal.
  • Structure: Governs your Hull Hitpoints and your Module Damage Resistance. Both of these are important defensive stats.

Meanwhile, you can only get Secondary attributes on modules of Rare quality or higher. They are as follows:

  • Utility: Lowers the cooldown of your devices, which are active abilities you can use. It also increases Kinetic and Energy damage equally.
  • Resistance: Reduces the damage your ship’s hull takes as well as the duration of debuffs.
  • Expertise: A unique and wildly varying attribute whose effect depends entirely on your ship’s subclass. For example, Scout class ships get increased weapon range.

We know it’s a lot to take in at once, but you will get to understand the attributes system quickly as you play the game and upgrade your ship.
