No game is perfect when it first launches, and one of the most common issues with new games releasing is performance. On average, most newly launched games suffer from FPS drops and stutters.

The same is true for the newly released Everspace 2. In some cases, you will suffer from FPS drops while in the middle of a space battle. Needless to say, this can be quite frustrating.

Luckily, there are a few fixes you can do to resolve the issue, and we’ll outline them in this guide.

How to Fix FPS Drop and Improve Performance in Everspace 2

There are several reasons why you might experience FPS drops and overall poor performance when playing Everspace 2.

It could be that your GPU driver is outdated, your PC failed to meet the system requirements, you have lots of applications running in the background, and more.

The game being poorly optimized could be a culprit too, but judging from the game’s Very Positive rating, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Also, it seems that most negative reviews don’t really mention poor optimization at all.

This means that the problem is most likely on your end. Here are some quick fixes we recommend you try doing:

Check Your PC’s Specs

Obviously, the first method you should try is to check whether your PC was able to meet the game’s system requirements or not.

This is something that a lot of people tend to overlook when buying and playing games. If your PC was able to meet at least the minimum system requirements, then you can proceed to the other fixes.

However, if your PC’s system is outdated, then you have no choice but to stop playing the game and upgrade your components whenever you can.

Update Your GPU Driver

Another useful method you should try is to check if your GPU driver is updated. If not, then you want to download the latest driver from your GPU manufacturer and install it.

If you have an NVIDIA GPU, you can use NVIDIA GeForce Experience to check for updates. Simply head to the Drivers tab, and if an update is available, just click the Download button and follow the instructions.

For AMD GPUs, you need to visit their website and look for the latest driver available for your current card.

Disable Steam Overlay

In some cases, Steam Overlay can cause some performance issues while playing a game. This doesn’t just apply to Everspace 2 but to any other Steam games.

To solve the issue, you want to disable the overlay by heading to the Settings and then to the In-game tab. Once there, all you have to do is uncheck the box that says “Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game”.

Adjust the In-game Settings

If the previous fixes still won’t solve the problem, your next best option is to adjust the settings in-game.

You’re going to have to do a bit of tweaking here to solve the FPS drop issue. You can start by lowering the quality of the graphics and adjusting the following settings to Medium or Low:

  • Anti-Aliasing
  • Post Processing
  • Effects
  • Shading
  • Volumetrics
  • View Distance

You’ll have to experiment with the settings here, trying to come up with a good balance between performance and visuals.

Close Applications You Don’t Use

Running too many applications in the background can end up hogging most of your computer’s resources. This can result in games not running as optimally as they should.

If this is the case, you want to close as many applications as you can, provided that you’re not using them.
