118 articlesIt’s not as easy to get the Farmer as some of the other helpful NPCs in Enshrouded because you’ll first need to solve the symbol puzzle for the door in the Ancient Vault.
There are three glowing symbols by the door and absolutely no explanation as to what they do. But, they really are just locks that you can open by pressing the right buttons.
In this guide, we’ll tell you where to find said right buttons so that you can solve the symbol door puzzle and free the Farmer!
How to Solve the Door Symbol Puzzle to Get the Farmer
As we mentioned in our locations guide for the Farmer and Alchemist, you will start the puzzle for the Farmer’s Ancient Vault from the bridge in the middle of the building.

Enshrouded: Best Builds After Update 7 (Wake of the Water)Dec 3, 2025Just face the broken stairs to the west and use your Grappling Hook to cross the gap to start!
After the grapple, face to your right and you will see a room full of lava with some broken platforms.
Jump across the platforms and reach the metal grate, then shimmy towards the exit to your right.
You will now be in a room with some lightning traps. Time yourself and dash across the lightning bolts, using the gaps between the traps to take a breather.
Make your way to the end of the room past the traps and you’ll see a glowing panel like the one in the image. Just approach it and use it to activate it.
That’s one locked down, and two to go!
The Second Lock
As soon as you get rid of the first lock, turn to your right and go into the adjacent room.
Now, go up the platforms and use the metal grates to make your way to the very top of the room. You should reach a room with a large ball on fire, overlooking the room with the symbol puzzle door.
Take the southwestern exit out of the room, grappling across the massive gap.
You will land right in front of the second lock, so just push the button!
The Third Lock
After pressing the button for the second lock, face north and you should notice an exit by some rubble.
Go through the exit and then turn to your right to spot a set of stairs going up and leading to a long metal grate.
Climb your way up the metal grate and you will reach the very top of the Ancient Vault, leaving you out in the open.
Take the only exit to the north and then you can go two ways. Go left for a short path leading to a treasure chest, then double back and take the right path.
At the end of the rightmost path, you will find a metal gate. Open it up and you’ll be faced with a bunch of spike traps.
The third and final lock is on the opposite end of the room, right in front of you.
Swiftly move past the spike traps by timing your jumps correctly and reach the lock, then push the button!
Now, all that’s left is to go back to the door with the symbol puzzle. The door will have opened now, allowing you to get to the Farmer’s pod and free him.
