The Grindmill is a key crafting station in Enshrouded because it converts raw resources into dust that you need for mid-game upgrades. You will not be able to progress very far without gold dust or gleamroot dust, so unlocking the mill early is a smart move. Here is a straightforward guide that shows you exactly where to find it and how to keep it running.

Where to find the Grindmill Blueprint

First, you want to make your way to Riverreach in the southeastern area of Veilwater Basin. This is the village with tall stone buildings and a massive waterfall running through the center.

To reach the mill:

  1. Go to the top of the waterfall where the water feeds over the edge.
  2. Look for the two large water wheels mounted in the structure.
  3. Head toward the intact wheel.
  4. Break the wooden door through the doorways beside the wheels.
  5. Go upstairs and turn right twice.

Inside the final room, the Grindmill blueprint is waiting on the wall. Read the lore to unlock the blueprint permanently. You can now craft and place your own mill at your base.

What the Grindmill Produces

Some materials cannot be used until they are ground down into dust. The mill handles that job:

Gold OreGold Dust
GleamrootGleamroot Dust
VetroVetro Dust

More options open up as you unlock new recipes and tools. But dust is vital for workstation upgrades and stronger gear, so the Mill becomes part of your core setup very quickly.

Powering the Mill

The Mill can’t run on its own. It needs a force generator. You can use water wheels or windmill sails to function.

Water Wheel Power

  • Place a wheel on a wall surface near flowing water.
  • The wheel must make contact with the water flow.
  • The Mill must be within 50 meters to receive power.

This is cheap and available early, especially if you build near rivers or waterfalls.

Windmill Sails

  • Place sails on walls or tall structures that can catch the wind.
  • The sails cost more (resource-wise) but do not require a water source.
  • Great for bases far from natural water.

As long as the wheel or sail is spinning, the Mill becomes fully active and can start grinding.

Why You Should Unlock the Mill Early

Without dust, you will hit a progression block fast. The Mill:

  • Opens access to major crafting upgrades.
  • Supports new armor and gear tiers.
  • Pushes you into mid-game exploration sooner.

It also introduces the first taste of automation in Enshrouded through environmental power sources, which is a pretty nice change of pace. Also, it will complete the quest given to you from the Alchemist, “Obtaining A Mill.”

Final Thoughts

If dust is holding you back, take a trip to Riverreach and grab the Grindmill. Set up water power or a basic wind setup at your base, and you will have everything you need to start crafting higher-tier materials with your new dust. It is one of the most important early unlocks in the game, and the payoff shows up almost immediately.
