Enshrouded allows you to approach combat encounters in many different ways, and using a spell (or multiple spells!) is one of these ways.

Learning to use magic in Enshrouded is pretty hard at the start of the game, as it can be pretty limited. Nonetheless, it becomes manageable if you know what to look out for.

In this guide, we’ll help you get started learning your first spell and then tell you how to keep improving your wizardry!

Ultimate Spell Guide

Getting a Staff

Enshrouded: Ultimate Spell Guide - Staff

Your first task when learning how to cast any spell in Enshrouded is to get yourself a staff. Every wizard needs their tool!

The very first staff you can get is the extremely basic “Staff”. The name says it all, doesn’t it? You’ll need the following materials to craft it:

  • Bone x1 – A common drop from any skeletal enemy. They can be found in graveyards and the like, such as the Necropolis and Bramblespine Boneyard.
  • Resin x2 – You get this from chopping down trees. If you’ve already been playing Enshrouded, you probably have loads of Resin by the time you read this!

It’s a very basic tool, but it’ll do for learning the ropes of spell-casting, so don’t underestimate it.

Fireball I charge

Either way, though, a staff can’t run on pure willpower. No, you will also need to get Staff Charges, which are your spells in this game!

Everything You Need To Know About Staff Charges

Enshrouded: Ultimate Spell Guide - Staff Charges

Staff Charges, as mentioned previously, are your spells in Enshrouded. There are a variety of them, with lots of variance in power and elements.

In technical terms, they sort of act like ammo. You will consume Staff Charges when casting, so you will need to have multiples of them to keep slinging spells.

Early in the game, you will only get Staff Charges randomly from chests. The game’s world and the location of chests aren’t randomized, but their contents are, to some extent.

The Alchemist in base

Eventually, though, you will get a quest to free an Alchemist from the Alchemist’s Vault. This will allow you to bring the Alchemist NPC to your base, which is where things really get going for a spell slinger.

Once you have the Alchemist at your base, just interact with him and you’ll be able to craft a variety of Staff Charges!

Crafting Staff Charges

His repertoire seems to increase as you find more and more different types of materials. So, keep an eye out for new materials and loot everything you can!

But, there’s one little thing more to keep in mind when it comes to casting a spell in Enshrouded: your mana.

How Mana Works

Enshrouded: Ultimate Spell Guide - Mana

Mana is the blue bar under your health bar on the top left corner of the screen. Firing a Staff Charge will consume an amount of mana, depending on which Staff Charge you used.

The exact Mana cost for each Staff Charge can be seen in their description, so it’s easy to keep track of!

Not having enough Mana when trying to use a Staff Charge will prevent you from casting, and managing your Mana can be a pain early on.

Equipment that boosts Mana

Thankfully, you can increase your Mana, its efficiency, and how it regens by putting Skill Nodes in the Wizard branch of the skill tree or by equipping certain magical equipment.

Ultimately, though, just make sure to keep an eye on your Mana reserves whenever you head into combat if you plan to rely on spells!

But, at least now you know everything there is to know about how to cast a spell in Enshrouded, right?
