The Preorder
If you preordered any edition of Digimon Story Time Stranger, then you will be able to unlock both Agumon and Gabumon with their digivolutions fully unlocked early. There is no grinding necessary. You simply go over to your inbox tab and open them in there.
This is the fastest way to get the fully evolved versions of Agumon and Gabumon. This means the conditions for the Bond versions are already unlocked. But again, if you did not want to pay extra or forgot to preorder, no worries. You can still unlock both with some hard work and a lot of evolving.
How to Unlock Agumon and Gabumon
You can unlock both Digimon as you play through the main story. The regular versions you obtain in the game can evolve into the Bond of Bravery and the Bond of Friendship versions. But you have to meet certain requirements for both. This can be time-consuming and lengthy, but anything worth having requires just that… right?

As soon as you get your first Digimon in the game, you will start to encounter Koromon. You will have to battle him a couple of times, where you will then be able to convert Koromon into an egg. Progress some more through the main story.
You will eventually come to a scene where you learn you can Digivolve your Digimon. The requirements for evolving your Koromon into an Agumon are: Agent Rank 1 or higher and 530 Max HP or greater.
So, you will need to level up your Koromon to at least level 7. This will fulfill the Max HP requirement. You are already Agent Rank 1 or higher, so that requirement is already fulfilled.
You will now be able to evolve your Koromon into an Agumon.
Bond of Bravery Evolution
It is not known definitively, the requirements for unlocking the Bond versions of these Digimon. However, based on the Demo and past games, we have a solid idea.
To evolve your regular Agumon into the Bond of Bravery version, you will have to meet these three requirements (based on the demo):
- Agent Rank 8 or higher
- 3630 attack or greater
- 46 Bonds of Valor Agent Skills learned
You will more than likely not unlock this Bond version until you are towards the end of the game, unless you only devote yourself to one of the five skill trees, which isn’t really recommended. Especially if you are also trying to get the Bond version of Gabumon.
Gabumon
For Gabumon, you will need to play through the main story until you fight MetalGreymon with Omegamon. This will allow you to now encounter Punimon Digimon.
You will need to train the Punimon up to level 3 or 4. This will fulfill the requirements to evolve the Digimon into a Tsunomon: Agent Rank 1 or higher and 200 attack or greater.
Now, train up your Tsunomon to about level 6. This will fulfill the requirements to evolve into a Gabumon: Agent Rank 1 or higher, 230 Max SP or greater, and 250 attack or greater.
Bond of Friendship Evolution
It is not yet known what the exact requirements are for evolving the Gabumon into the Bond version. However, it is speculated that it is similar, if not the same, as the requirements for Agumon, just twisted to match the skill tree of Gabumon.
Early in the Game
Digimon Story Time Stranger has just been released, so there seem to be a lot more questions than answers at the moment. However, based on the demo, we have a great idea of the requirements that are to come for unlocking the Bond versions of Agumon and Gabumon.
So, for now at least, you know how to unlock the Digimon and what you need to aim for if you want to get the Bond of Bravery and the Bond of Friendship versions.
