The Pump Room in Blue Prince has a puzzle that allows you drain the water from other rooms, such as the Pool.

To drain the water, you’ll need to figure out how the pumps and pipes are connected, mainly. Every pipe is connected to a specific room and water tank, figuring them out is the main part. Of course, though, you’ll also need to know how the pumps themselves work!

In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know to be able to use the Pump Room.

How to Drain the Pool With the Pump Room Puzzle | Blue Prince

Since the initial water levels can vary for this puzzle, it’s important that you know how the Pump Room puzzle works. This will help you drain not just the Pool, but other rooms as well!

First, notice that there are 6 pipes in the room. The schematic above shows what each pipe is connected to. From left to right, they are as follows:

  1. Fountain – Pump 2 – Tank 1 and Tank 2
  2. Reservoir – Pump 2 – Tank 1 and Tank 2
  3. Aquarium – Pump 1 – Tank 1
  4. Kitchen – Pump 3 – Tank 2
  5. Greenhouse – Pump 1 – Tank 1
  6. Pool – Pump 4 – Tank 1

You’ll also notice that each one of these pipes leads to one of four pumps in the room. The lever on each pump lets you control the water’s flow. Push it up (away from you) to direct the water from the rooms to the tank. Pull it down (toward you) to direct the water from the tank toward the rooms.

Additionally, there’s a switch on the pipe between both main tanks here. This is relevant only when you want to deal with the Fountain and Reservoir, as they’re the only rooms connected to both tanks. Just flip it toward whichever tank you want to direct the water to or from as needed. Worth noting each tank can hold 4 units of water.

Do note there’s also a Reserve Tank in the room. However, that one can only be controlled after you get the Boiler Room and isn’t necessary to drain the Pool.

Lastly, there’s a control panel next to the pipes. You can press the button under the room names here to activate the pump. Pressing a button will cause the water to flow based on how you’ve set the pumps in the room. Each rectangle represents 1 unit of water.

Example of How to Drain the Water

With the basics laid down, drawing the water is a fairly simple process in theory. Use the pumps and the panel to draw the water from one room to the tank. Then, move the water from the tank to another room to empty the tank. Repeat this process until you drain the desired room!

For example, let’s say the Aquarium is nearly empty and you want to drain 5 units of water from the Pool. You’ll want to set Pump 4 to move water from the Pool to Tank 1. Then, set Pump 1 to move water from the Tank to the Aquarium. Then you just need to press the Pool and Aquarium buttons in the control panel.

In this example, 4 units of water will first flow from the Pool to Tank 1 and then those 4 units of water will move to the Aquarium. This will allow you to activate the Pool pump again to drain the remaining 1 unit of water to the tank.

Of course, that’s just an example! The exact solution will vary from time to time, as the water levels seem to be different each time. This is especially true if you’ve already used the Pump Room before! Nonetheless, the puzzle is pretty simple once you know the basics of how it works.

So, there you have it! That’s how to find the solution for the Pump Room water puzzle in Blue Prince, so you can now drain the Pool Room and most other rooms with ease. Draining the Pool specifically will earn you about a dozen Coins. Also note that the water levels you set will remain for the next in-game day.
