How to Activate and Reach the Elevator to the Basement | Foundation
The foundation is one of the few permanent rooms that you can add to the estate in this game, and because of the nature of the puzzle here, you cannot place it along the walls. The solution to activating the elevator is actually hilariously simple.
All you need to do is place a room in the left side of the foundation. The one thing you need to keep in mind is that there should be a door leading to the foundation, which is why the answer might not have been as obvious at first, because most players would likely not consider doing that on purpose.
By entering this new room, you will notice that the doorway attached to the foundation’s supposedly inaccessible corner will have a winch on it that you can spin. Simply walk up to it and interact with the winch.

Eventually, a brief cutscene will play, which will show the elevator descending as you manually rotate the winch. With that done, you can now enter the basement, which we will leave for you to explore as spoiling everything would defeat the entire purpose of doing it yourself.
