These floating metal balls are rare, fast, and annoyingly good at running away. Luckily, there’s a way to track them down quickly and take them out before they vanish. Here’s everything you need to know to finish the quest without wasting an entire evening chasing air.
How to Find the Surveyor
Look for a blue beam shooting straight into the sky, that’s your best clue that a Surveyor is nearby. You can often see the beam from major areas like Blue Gate or Space Port or near the Hydro Dome Complex in the Dam map.
Just a heads-up though: the Surveyor has been buffed, so trying to whack it with melee is pretty much asking for pain. Instead, try using Fero or Anvil or nades for a better chance at bringing it down fast.

Step 2: Use a Showstopper Grenade or Heavy Weapon
The easiest way to take it down is with a Showstopper grenade. Toss one while the Surveyor is still idle, it’ll stun or hold it in place just long enough for you to move in and finish the job.
From there, either blast it down with your weapon or, if it’s safe, use your pickaxe to conserve ammo. Or just use a heavy weapon like Fero or Anvil to get the job done fast.
Keep in mind, Surveyors are rare spawns, and they don’t stick around for long. If you hesitate, it’ll take off and disappear across the map. Also, make sure you’re properly geared, under-leveled players will just end up watching it drift away for five minutes straight.
