Brighter Shores has a pretty unique class system, so it can be tough to figure out which is the best class to choose.

This game looks to do away with classic archetypes, such as Fighters and Mages. It features more unique classes instead, which are hybrids of more traditional ones. To make things even stranger, you don’t even get to choose a class until you’ve played a few hours. It’s not done on character creation!

Worry not, however, this guide will help you pick the best class for you in Brighter Shores.

Which Is The Best Class To Choose?

As we mentioned before begin, it’s important for you to keep in mind that you can’t choose a class at the start of the game. You’ll simply be a Guard at first. There’s no way to select a permanent class until you reach Episode 2, Hopeforest. That does mean you don’t need to fret too much about making a choice for a while, however!

Now, once you do reach Episode 2 you’ll automatically become a Scout class instead of a Guard. At the same time, you’ll have the option to join 1 of 3 different Factions, which will define your permanent class. Keep in mind that, at least currently, you can’t change your class later.

However, all 3 classes currently work the same with their only difference being which type of elemental damage they deal. This is intended to change as the game’s development continues over time, but it does mean that there’s currently little reason to choose one class over another. Aside from that, all classes will always get access to melee and ranged skills, including magic. This versatility means that they’ll all play similarly, for the most part.

The Three Current Classes

With all of that said, here’s a quick rundown of the 3 Faction classes currently in the game:

  • Cryoknight – Masters of ice and cold, their attacks deal Cryonae damage. Their skills will focus on freezing enemies to control and weaken them.
  • Guardian – Intended to be the Tank archetype, they deal Arborae damage. They focus on defense and will get skills to help keep themselves and their allies alive.
  • Hammermage – Meant to be the most straightforward class for dealing pure damage. They have a focus on the Tempestae element and master both physical and magic skills.

Ultimately, which is the best class for you to choose in Bright Shores simply depends on which one seems more interesting to you. They all currently play pretty much the same, so there’s not much distinction between them. Even the elemental damage types don’t matter too much, they simply make them better or worse against specific enemies but do little else. This might change later in the game’s life, but we can’t really predict which class will become the best overall later on.

Aside from the class, though, are you also wondering which Profession to focus on? Check out our guide on which Profession is the best!

Venezuelan gamer cursed by being interested by most games, resulting in a ridiculous backlog he’ll never be able to conquer. Been gaming for over two decades now! Few things exemplify his wide variety in gaming tastes as the fact that he’s a big fan of both Souls games and the Atelier series at the same time. Also a big fan of Yakuza/Like a Dragon, Deadly Premonition, Zero Escape, and Dead Rising, among others. Considers Lost Judgment and Sekiro to both be masterpieces.
