If your Xbox Series S/X has started to feel sluggish or your games are taking longer to load, you might be dealing with a packed cache. It’s similar to what happens on our phones, and we have to clear our apps.

Clearing it out is one of the quickest fixes for odd performance issues, lag, or games freezing for seemingly no reason. The good news is that the Xbox gives you a couple of easy ways to wipe the cache.

Here is how to get your console running smoothly again.

1st Option

The first way you can clear the cache on your Xbox Series S/X is by following these steps:

Open game hub
  1. Turn off the console
  2. Unplug the power cable
  3. Keep it unplugged for 1-2 minutes
  4. Replug the power cable
  5. Restart your console

Simple and easy steps. But if that doesn’t seem to work, try the next method.

2nd Option

This option is slightly more advanced but is usually preferred by the community. Follow these simple steps:

  1. Open your settings
  2. Scroll down to the System tab
  3. Click on Console Info

Here is where you need to be extremely careful. You want to click on “Reset Console.” The Xbox will give you two options:

  • Reset and remove everything
  • Reset and keep my games and apps

To clear your cache, select the option to keep your games and apps. The other option will completely factory reset your Xbox, and you will have to reinstall all of your games. This is really only used when you sell your console. So be very careful when selecting the option.

Wrapping Up

And that’s all there is to clearing the cache on your Xbox Series X/S. Both ways are relatively simple and address small issues that add up quickly and affect game performance. Giving you a major headache. Just always be sure you are selecting the right reset option if you choose to go the more in-depth route. Give your console a quick refresh, and you will be back to a smooth performance in-game.
