Battlehorn Castle is one of the many homes you can get in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

Originally, this castle was part of one of the game’s DLCs. However, the Remastered edition thankfully bundled it into the game by default. That means that, if you know where to look, you can get the castle as your home right from the start of the game!

Read on and we’ll tell you how to make Battlehorn Castle and how to get all of its upgrades, including the Dwemer Forge.

Battlehorn Castle Player Home Guide | Oblivion Remastered

Becoming the Owner

You can become the owner of Battlehorn Castle by starting and completing its short quest. To start it, go west from the Imperial City to find the Black Road. Reach the end of the Black Road by going further west than Chorrol. The North Country Stable works as a fast travel spot here, as well.

You’ll automatically receive a quest prompt once you reach the western end of the Black Road. It will mention that you hear a nearby castle being sieged. Make this your active quest and follow it.

Go a bit northwest from where you got the quest prompt and you’ll reach Battlehorn Castle itself. A bunch of Marauders will be trying to raid it. Help the castle’s guards fend them off! Be careful not to accidentally attack and kill the NPCs labeled as Battlehorn Man-at-Arms. They are on your side, being the castle’s guards! Those guards are also pretty strong, too, so they can do most of the work for you if you’re undergeared.

Once the Marauders are dealt with, talk with the castle’s guards. They will mention that the previous owner, Lord Kelvyn, died during the raid. In fact, you can find his corpse by the castle’s gate if you look for it. Either way, his passing conveniently results in you being the new owner. Congratulations, Battlehorn Castle is all yours!

Upgrading the Castle

Battlehorn Castle is decent from the get-go, but it’s missing many of its accoutrements. Thankfully, Lord Kelvyn’s Will tells you where to go to recover them. You need to go to the Imperial City and meet Nilphas Omellian. He’s at the Merchants Inn in the Market District. We’ve marked his location on the map above.

Once you meet with Nilphas Omellian, he’ll congratulate you for becoming the castle’s owner. He’ll also give you a document containing a list of all of the upgrades for the castle. This document also has a quick rundown of what each upgrade does.

That aside, you can choose to Barter with him to buy each one of the upgrades. There are 8 total upgrades, each one priced around 2500 Gold by default. Be sure to haggle to reduce the prices, as they are quite expensive!

How to Get the Dwemer Forge

If you want to get the Dwemer Forge upgrade, purchase any of the other upgrades from Nilphas Omellian. Then, return to Battlehorn Castle and talk with any of the Man-at-Arms there. They will tell you that Nilphas Omellian offered to build a Dwemer Forge at the castle and suggest that you buy it.

Return to Nilphas Omellian at any point after that and barter with him again. He will now have the Battlehorn Dwemer Forge available as an upgrade. That means that, in total, there are 9 upgrades to get for about 2500 Gold a pop. Again, haggling will be crucial here if you wish to buy everything!

What makes the Dwemer Forge special is that it will boost your Armorer Skill by 15 while you’re close to it. This is extremely useful in the early game, as the Armorer Skill is important for repairing your weapons and armor.

So, there you have it! That’s everything you need to know to get the Battlehorn Castle and all of its upgrades in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Make sure to fully upgrade it so that it’s fit for a lord! We also recommend exploring it thoroughly, as it has some nice little secrets for you to find.

Venezuelan gamer cursed by being interested by most games, resulting in a ridiculous backlog he’ll never be able to conquer. Been gaming for over two decades now! Regarding safe storage at Battlehorn Castle, Gamesfuze states on another page: “All containers in the Private Quarters are safe. Also, all Sacks in the castle are also safe. As a funny fact, the dead deer in the Kitchen is also a safe container!”

“All containers in the Private Quarters are safe. Also, all Sacks in the castle are also safe. As a funny fact, the dead deer in the Kitchen is also a safe container!” I don’t think any of those safe storage places exist till you’ve bought the castle upgrades. There’s no sacks, no kitchen, and the private quarters has no storage units from new.
