Despite being in development for roughly 13 years, it seems that the release date of Star Citizen is not on the horizon. That’s assuming it even releases at all.

Recent data revealed that Roberts Space Industries, the company behind Star Citizen, is nearing $900 million in crowdfunding already. When exactly it will release is everybody else’s guess, but at least players who haven’t bought a copy yet can try the game out for free.

Just days ago, Roberts Space Industries announced its Intergalactic Aerospace Expo 2955 event. In case you’re wondering, there is an annual event that takes place inside the game.

And the best part is, you can get the chance to experience Star Citizen’s universe for free! According to their blog post, the free fly event will last between November 20 and December 3, 2025.

During the event, citizens will be able to witness the most iconic ships that will gather in the Orison network on planet Crusader.

There, you will see around 200 ships in full display, and if one of them caught your fancy, you’ll be able to board it and try it out.

Star Citizen’s Free Fly Event Allows Everyone to Try the Game for Free

If you haven’t caught up with anything Star Citizen-related, developer Cloud Imperium Games actually released the game’s alpha 4.4 version a few days ago.

This latest version comes with a lot of new stuff, with the new Nyx star system as the most notable addition. You’ll also come across new missions, weapons, and a bunch of other changes.

However, you shouldn’t really focus on that stuff too much if you’re going in for the first time. All you have to do if you decide to test it out is to head to Orison to take a look at the free ships and try one out for yourself.

Specifically, you can try the “latest offerings from the last 12 months,” as stated by Roberts Space Industries, as well as “nearly 200 ships for free.”

Considering that buying a new ship in the game can cost you real-world money, with some even more expensive than your PC, this would be a good opportunity to see whether the game is worth backing or not.

Of course, this is also a good thing for existing players.

As mentioned, the event started on November 20 and will end on December 3. It’s also worth noting that the ships will be available on rotation.

Cloud Imperium Games has really done some key improvements on the game to make it a bit more approachable for new players. There are now improved in-game tutorials that will help onboard players, alongside a new player guide that offers a wealth of information.

With all that said, if you’re curious to see whether the game is worth your time or not, then now’s the perfect time to do so.
