Swedish video game and media holding company Embracer Group has sold off Arc Games and Cryptic Studios after acquiring the companies back in 2021.

It’s reported that the deal went through with Project Golden Arc, which bought the companies for $30 million under the funding of XD Inc.

Arc Games was the publisher behind games like Remnant: From the Ashes, Remnant II, Star Trek Online, Torchlight, and the newly released Fellowship.

Meanwhile, Cryptic Studios is the developer behind Star Trek Online, Neverwinter, and City of Heroes.

It can be recalled that these two companies were bought by Embracer Group back in 2021, back when the company was aggressively acquiring companies that resulted in massive layoffs and studio closures.

A lot of its studios that managed to survive have been sold since, one of which is Gearbox, the developers behind the Borderlands series.

What the Deal Means for the Two Sold Off Companies

In a statement that they released not long ago, Embracer Group CEO Phil Rogers said that the “transaction supports our key priorities by strengthening our focus on strategic assets and core IPs in Embracer while improving profitability and free cash flow.”

Along with the sellout, Embracer’s THQ Nordic will take the publishing rights for the Remnant franchise from Arc Games.

On the other hand, the rights for the Fellowship game will now belong to Coffee Stain, though Arc Games will remain listed as its co-publisher.

At the same time, Embracer Group is giving its shareholders shares in one of its divisions, Coffee Stain Group, effectively turning Coffee Stain into its own separate company. This decision was approved at a special shareholders meeting on November 3, 2025.

This means that if you own Embracer shares, you will automatically receive the same type of shares in Coffee Stain without paying any fees or taking any action.

Coffee Stain will then be listed as an independent company on the Nasdaq First North Premier exchange in Stockholm, with trading expected to begin around December 11, 2025.

Embracer says the goal is to let Coffee Stain operate more independently and focus on its strengths, while Embracer can reorganize its remaining businesses.
