Are you one of those who are excited for Kingmakers to release in Early Access this October 8? If so, then you’re out of luck. As it turns out, developer Redemption Road Games decided to delay the game indefinitely in favor of polishing the game.

According to them, they want to make sure that “everyone who buys the game is enthralled and feels like their money was well spent.”

On a tweet by Ian Fisch, lead coder of Kingmakers, the delay will focus mainly on their team’s technical ambitions. They wanted to make sure that they can push Unreal Engine 4 to its absolute limits, all while being able to provide a true 60fps experience for players without the use of fake frames.

Due to that, they have decided to give the game a bit more time to polish before they feel good about charging people for it. Here’s what the tweet said:

What the Delay Will Mean for Kingmakers’ Development

Put simply, Redemption Road Games want to make sure that the game will be worth the purchase when it gets out into Early Access.

“In short: it’s an incredibly ambitious, uncompromising game, and we don’t want to cut any planned features, for the sake of getting it out of the door earlier. Our goal, from the start, has been to create something that’s nothing like anything else on the market, in terms of gameplay, scale, scope, and interactivity,” said the developers.

They also went on to mention other examples of interactivity. For example, players can enter every room of various giant 6-story castles and destroy every wall and floor there is, as you would with The Finals. Also, when you drive a car to a tree, the tree will break from its stump then hit any unfortunate soldier nearby.

There’s no shortage of interactivity in this game, and players are free to explore every nook and cranny of their massive maps.

When asked about the feasibility of moving to Unreal Engine 5, Ian Fisch responded that they’ve tried upgrading to UE 5.1 and 5.3 once but decided to roll back since CPU performance is considerably worse than that of UE 4.7.

It’s worth noting that while a delay has been announced, the tweet didn’t mention a new release schedule. Fortunately, most of the fans understood the decision, mentioning that delaying the game is much better than releasing it in a buggy state.

Some were understandably disappointed but appreciated the honesty that the developers displayed. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
