Kadokawa Corporation, the parent company of FromSoftware, have shared their earning results for the second quarter of their fiscal year 2025. In it, they report that Elden Ring Nightreign sales have “performed well beyond initial expectations”, being their most notable release for the fiscal year. At the same time, they briefly talk about the release window for Nightreign’s upcoming DLC.

Elden Ring Nightreing Sales Exceed Expectations, Most Notable Gaming Release for Kadokawa Ahead of DLC

As mentioned above, Kadokawa single out Elden Ring Nightreing as part of their forecast for the gaming segment. They cite it as having “performed well beyond initial expectations.”

The game was most likely seen as a small project by Kadokawa and FromSoftware. That is, despite carrying the Elden Ring IP and name. Many players were eager to check it out based solely on the fact that it was a new Elden Ring game, after all. So, it’s not too surprising that it managed to sell well.

At the same time, Kadokawa also briefly commented on two of their other developers. Spike Chunsoft and Acquire are also reported to be doing well. No more details were shared, however.

That said, Kadokawa Corporation does also report that overall profits this fiscal year are down. After all, the previous fiscal year was extremely strong thanks to FromSoftware’s original Elden Ring and its DLC, Shadow of the Tree.

This all tracks pretty well with initial sales reports of the Elden Ring spin-off. The official Elden Ring account on X showed this back on July 24. At that time, Elden Ring Nightreign had sold 5 million copies, while the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC had sold 10 million.

Kadokawa Briefly Mentions the Expected Elden Ring Nightreign DLC Release Window

Now, the earnings call report also seems to briefly mention the release window for the upcoming Elden Ring Nightreign DLC.

In the overview for their gaming segment, Kadokawa mention that they plan to release DLC for Elden Ring Nightreign DLC during the fiscal year 2025. Worth noting that FY2025 ends on March 31st, 2026.

This also seems to fit with the fact that the Nightreign DLC was officially announced to be released “by Q4 2025” as part of the game’s Deluxe Edition.

However, there has been no communication as we approach the end of 2025. As such, fans are speculating that the wording meant that the DLC will come out in the fourth quarter of FY2025. This seems quite likely, as there has yet to be any official announcement or teaser for the DLC.

Similarly, very little is still known about the DLC’s contents. Officially, it’s only known that it will include additional Nightfarers and bosses, without many details to go on.

Datamining Gives a Glimpse at the DLC’s Contents

That said, dataminers have previously found files hinting at things we could expect from the upcoming DLC. Primarily, as you can see above, it’s very likely that the DLC will add some enemies and content from Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

They’ve also found traces of some of the upcoming Nightfarers’ abilities. These include a “Scholar” who specializes in thrusting swords and buffing allies. There’s also an “Undertaker” who specializes in hammers and appears to have a counter move.

However, these are all to be taken with a grain of salt. With the DLC seemingly still months away, things are subject to change.

Nonetheless, it’s ultimately interesting to see that FromSoftware’s experimental title has exceeded expectations. This might incentivize the company to seek out more experimental titles, such as the upcoming The Duskbloods.

While I personally love Elden Ring Nightreign, I’m also excited to see what else FromSoftware can come up with. What would you like to see next from them?
