Monster Hunter Wilds: Capture a Rime Beetle Location (Samin’s Research Report Cont)

“Samin’s Research Report Cont.” is one of the many quests in Monster Hunter Wilds which requires you to find the location of endemic life and capture it, in this case requiring a Rime Beetle.

Rime Beetles tend to stick to cold climates, such as the ones found in the Iceshard Cliffs region. These icy bugs are often found rolling around snowballs. Capture one of them alive so that Samin can research them and understand them better.

Capture a Rime Beetle Location | Samin’s Research Report Cont. Quest

You can start the “Samin’s Research Report Cont.” quest by talking to Samin in the Windward Plains Base Camp after you bring him a Dapperwing and complete “Dareel’s Research Report Cont”. For the next step of his Monster Hunter Wild quest line, you’ll need to find the location of a Rime Beetle and capture it.

Once you accept the quest from Samin, you need to travel to the Iceshard Cliffs.

While in the Iceshard Cliffs, open up your Detailed Map. Select the “Filter Icons” tool in the bottom left of the screen.

Now, you can just look for the Rime Beetle and set it as a Waypoint and Highlight. This will make fireflies appear, leading you to the nearest Rime Beetle.

The main reason to use this feature is that Rime Beetle spawns are pretty random. By using the Waypoint feature, you’ll be able to just go to the nearest one without relying on luck. Though, for the record, we do want to mention that Rime Beetles primarily spawn in Areas 2, 7, 8, 11, and 13 of the Iceshard Cliffs.

Anyway, just follow the fireflies and your Palico’s directions. They’ll take you to the nearest Rime Beetle. They look like relatively large beetles and are almost always pushing around snowballs. Then, you just need to capture them with your Capture Net and return to Samin to complete this quest!
