Mounts and Blade 2 Bannerlord is all about conquests, companions, and possibly even plunder. Players strategically take on empires with their cleverly assembled team of healers and warriors. After all, a great Mounts and Blade player is nothing without his team of supporters.

But Mounts and Blade isn’t just your ordinary medieval strategy game. Companions are generated at random, so there’s not a set character that you can just find on the wiki to determine who’s best. Often, players use their wits and ingenuity to find the most suitable companion for their party.

Not to worry. This guide will help you find the best companions in Mounts and Blade as well as a secret tip that will ensure you get the best ones.

How to Find the Best Companion

Before we venture off looking aimlessly for companions, there’s actually an easy way you can know how many companions there are.

If you look at the bottom left of the HUD you will see the Clan icon. Simply, click on the Clan icon. Afterward, click on our face and you will bring up the Encyclopedia tab.

The Encyclopedia lists everything in the game, including all companions. To see all companions, go to heroes and occupation and see all the companions currently in your game.

Clicking on the companion’s name lets you see their skills on the lower left. Once you recruit them into your party, their skills and levels will also progress as you play the game.

Let’s say you decided on a character and now you want to know where they are. Finding them is pretty simple. If you look at the upper right, their location is revealed and you can simply click on it to track the character.

If you now look at the map, the current city they are in will be highlighted on the map. Take note, they can travel between towns are you approach them.

Once you’ve reached the town, go to the tavern district and you will see a random NPC that spawns in the town. If they have spawned, then simply speak to your future companion to know their price.

After recruiting them, make sure to assign their clan role in the clan tab. For healers, it’s best to pick the role of Surgeon. This makes sure they won’t attack and heal at a safe distance. Companions will level up as your party progress, you can check their skills in the tab. Make sure to max out their focus points on medicine for surgeons.

The Secret Tip

The secret tip is simple yet effective. It’s to save before you meet the companion.

Since you can see companions’ stats in the Encyclopedia before you meet them, you can weigh the pros and cons for each and choose the best companion for that role.

For example, Rhagin and Erta both have 60 medicine. Based on that, you probably think they both have the same value as healers. That’s what players think at first but because I saved before I talked to Rhagin I learned that she had a higher price and lower intelligence state than Erta despite having the same medical skill.

So because I saved, I was able to determine which companion is the best. Make sure you implement these tips, so you can too.
