“Seeking the Goldenfish” is part of Kanya’s fishing quest line in Monster Hunter Wilds.
This is Kanya’s second quest and is somewhat of a tutorial on Fishing Lures. Kanya will give you a lure that’s particularly good for catching Goldenfish, then somewhat challenges you to find and catch one. Her only clue as to their whereabouts is that they favor dark pools.
In this guide, we’ll help you find the exact spawn location for Goldenfish and tell you how to catch them for Kanya’s quest.
Seeking the Goldenfish | Monster Hunter Wilds Side Quest Guide
You can start the “Seeking the Goldenfish” quest in Monster Hunter Wilds by talking to Kanya at the Scarlet Forest Base Camp. She’ll give this quest to you after you complete her previous quest “Fishing: Life, In Microcosm.” That quest works as a tutorial for fishing, so you should know how fishing works if you’ve already completed it.
Once you’ve talked with Kanya and started the quest, go to Area 8 in the Scarlet Forest. It’s in the northeastern part of the area.
When you get there, look for a waterfall and walk through it. This will take you to a dark hidden cave. The classic waterfall cave!
Go to the northernmost part of the cave to find a good fishing spot. Look at the water and you should see the Goldenfish… if you’re lucky. It should look something like the one in the image above. It’s as gold as its name implies.
If you don’t see a Goldenfish, you’ll need to wait for time to pass. Time passes naturally in this game, but some quests can also change the time. If you already completed the main story and reached High Rank, you can Rest at any camp to pass time. This will cost a bit of Guild Points, however.
If you do see the Goldenfish, you just have to fish for it as usual. Just make sure to equip the Golden Bughead lure that Kanya gave you. To change your Lure: hold L1 and use Triangle and X (PS5), hold LB and use Y and A (Xbox), or simply press the Up and Down arrow keys (PC).
Catch the fish and return to Kanya at the Scarlet Forest Base Camp to complete the “Seeking the Goldenfish” quest in Monster Hunter Wilds! We wish you the best of luck with this uncommon fish’s spawn.
